Squeeze the trigger of the TEKTON 6-inch ratchet bar clamp/12-inch spreader and apply precise, consistent pressure to your gluing or assembly project.
Made for carpentry, cabinetry and furniture projects, the TEKTON 6-inch ratchet bar clamp/12-inch spreader applies precise, consistent pressure to hold workpieces together for gluing or assembly.
Press the quick release button to freely position the jaw, then squeeze trigger to apply pressure. Once set, jaw is locked and will not creep. Soft jaw pads offer sure grip, but won't damage surfaces. When the job is finished, simply press the quick release button to let go of workpiece.
If you need to push pieces apart or press them against outside surfaces, convert clamp to spreader by loosening wingnut and moving fixed jaw to the opposite end of bar.

Note that I also purchased Tekton's smaller "TEKTON 39180 6-Inch by 1.5-Inch Ratchet Bar Clamp" which is extremely weak by comparison (the clamping mechanism would start slipping after only a small amount of pressure was applied). With these larger 2.5" / 39181 clamps you can apply much more pressure and they still stay completely rigid and maintain a solid grip.
I would guess that the Irwin's clamps may last longer based on my previous experience with their tools, however, as these are half the price but still seem to be high quality I would recommend you give Tekton a try.
The TEKTON jaw pads are about the same size as the Irwins, and smaller than the Jorgensens. For what it's worth, I prefer the Irwin in terms of overall use, slightly ahead of the Jorgensens, but the Jorgensens offered a significant price advantage when I last purchased clamps. These TEKTONs work fine, too, but I find them awkward to use, because of their retro-dorsal design -I find myself tightening with my thumb rather than fingers. However, I have no problem recommending all 3 of them. They all work well, and the TEKTONs are the least expensive at least at Amazon's "add-on" price.
This is not a heavy-duty clamp, but it is as solidly constructed as you would expect for this price. It will provide many years of service in my shop. The clamp performs exactly as it should - it slides easily, clamps easily with one hand, and provides sufficient clamping force for most of my DIY project needs. Often I do not need a heavy-duty clamp or even want one. This clamp is lightweight and easy to use, and it is a great addition to my tool collection.
My primary concern before purchasing this product was that it might turn out to be flimsy garbage. Now that I have used it for several weeks, I can tell you that it is a solid product. If you are looking for an affordable, easy to use, light to medium-duty clamp to add to your collection, this Tekton clamp will fit the bill.
UPDATE 1/29/15: I still stand by everything in my original review, however I have two additions to make. First, I noticed that the price on this clamp varies quite considerably, and my recommendation only applies if the price is < ~$15. Above that, this Tekton clamp quickly loses its value proposition. Second, for those who are looking for a more heavy-duty clamp, take a look at the Jorgensen HD line. They are built like tanks and priced VERY reasonably. Overall I consider them to be a much better value, however sometimes you actually want a lighter clamp or you want the quick "pump and release" clamp style vs. the slower screw style.

Works as advertised and very affordable. Lightweight so it works where heavier metal claps won't. Rubber ends make it useful for wood items.Published 6 days ago by Hclassic
