- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2016I bought this set up for my 1996, 13' Boston Whaler and just installed it this morning. It took two of us to do the actual steering cable removal and installation, but the actual helm replacement is a one man job.
The instructions were perfect and the quality of this steering cable is excellent. We did follow all details as mentioned and were successful in replacing all parts. The most complicated portion was the removal of the steering wheel. We used a 4" gear puller and were successful on the first pull. I'm sure that soaking the components in WD 40 the night before also helped. The most important advice I can give is to follow the clear instructions provided with the assembly.
It took roughly 3 1/2 hours for the complete removal & installation.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2016I bought this 6"-3 jaw puller to remove my 2006 F350 rear axle pinion flange. The main bolt takes a 1/2" or 13mm socket. The different bolt holes and configurations allowed me to adjust the tool to fit my needs. Once I got the tool set it took less than one minute to pull the pinion flange off the pinion gear. This tool saved me time and money! Thank you for a good quality part!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2013Although I do frequent car maintenance and repairs, I purchased this puller for the purpose of pulling ebike hub motor stators and covers. It does the job just right. For certain jobs, it may take taping some quarters to the arms so that you don't interface too much with the diameter of the stator.
I have not used this for any car purposes, but will update if the use arises. Decent deal for a dozen dollars at the time I purchased it. To the guy giving it 1 star because he couldn't get it to work for his steering wheel: Was it a fault of the puller's design, size or contruction that held you back?
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2015So far, I used it to get the sprocket off the injector pump on a diesel Volkswagen Rabbit. It works fine for that! The hooks are thick in an effort to make it stronger. I ended up being able to fit them behind the sprocket just good enough. It's very versatile as far as depth and width capabilities. There is a point on the center bolt that kept it in position nicely. The thread on the center bolt is quite coarse. This is actually a good thing. You can feel that you're applying a lot of pressure. It scares you, which can be good. In my case, after I had applied a lot of pressure, I chickened out and smacked the side of the sprocket with a hammer buffered by a piece of wood. The sprocket sprang right off (and it had really been on there). Very nice, useful thing, if you ask me.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2017Do Not Buy. very flawed design. the hinges bend when under load and the lack of a swivel tip means the tip will destroy what it is pressing against. buy the kit at harbor freight instead. still cheap but better design
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2015I bought a light-duty, small, cheap puller, and that is what I got. This puller may be fine for pulling pulleys off of things like alternators. Do not even think about using it on tie rod ends or any other suspension/steering application. The puller is held together with Grade 2 hardware store bolts; the arms are very rough. The main screw, however, looks fine.
I like to have a cheap puller or two around for odd applications where I need to grind the arms down to make it fit. That said, I would have been better off waiting for a vintage puller on FleaBay.
The puller is marked: Performance Tool, w87122. FWIW, some Performance Tool tools are first rate...not this puller.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2016This is a niche tool that you will hardly ever use unless you're a professional mechanic or machine tech, but when you need it, there is no other way to do the job. I needed to pull bearings off an old jointer head that was rusted out and nothing got them free. When I read about this tool on a forum I bought it immediately, and it got them off in the first try. I don't know how I would have done this without this gear puller. It's inexpensive and very effective.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2017I was replacing the crankset on a fixie bike and the driver side was stripped so I could not get it off for the life of me. I tried banging it out with a screw driver and hammer, then a 2 x4 and a hammer, nothing worked. I finally watched a repair video and the guy was using this gear puller, wish I had known about this earlier. Anyways, it's a learning process for me, I order this and got the crank arm off in no time at all, replaced it with the new one I had ordered and all is good again in La La Land!

Good price, modest quality. The jaws are too thick for some applications. Fine for infrequent use where thin strong jaw tips are not required
