TEKTON 5941 Digital Tire Gauge, 100 PSI
Get an instant, accurate, and easy-to-read measurement of your vehicle's tire pressure, regardless of the time of day, with the TEKTON Digital Tire Gauge.
Accurate and Easy
A simple push button turns the unit on and selects one of four measurement ranges. With gentle pressure, the nozzle seals onto the valve stem quickly and completely to deliver an accurate measurement. After you’re done, a 30-second automatic shut off means you never have to worry about accidentally running the batteries dead.
Light at Night
When it’s dark, the lighted nozzle illuminates your work area, so you can easily locate the valve stem. The exact measurement instantly displays on a clear, lighted digital screen, so there’s no guesswork or estimation like reading an analog gauge.
Contoured to fit your hand, the ergonomic shape is complemented by a soft, nonslip texture for ultimate comfort and control.

Just for reference, this uses the CR 2032 batteries which can be purchased for about $1.50 at Fry's electronics or even Wal-Mart.
Testing the unit I was pleased with the small light on the front, as I could locate the tire stem pretty easily in the dark. Don't get me wrong, it's not a flashlight but a pen type light. The unit was a bit fickle as I tried to test the tire pressure and it had a hard time getting a good seal which lead to minor air leaking. When I moved the unit a bit it would seal up and take the pressure. I tested it against an old handheld Slime model and the TEKTON was 10 PSI higher or my Slime was 10 psi lower. I'll take it to the tire shop to get an accurate reading on both and report below.
The unit itself is nice, the backlit display makes for easier reading. The battery was easy to replace but the angle of the TEKTON is a bit off, it is Left angled so depending on where your tire stem is, it can be a bit difficult to attach.
Please note, this is for right handed people as the unit's display is turned backward if trying to use left handed or when the tire stem is to the far facing right it will be upside down or you have to stand and rotate to line it up.
I am sad to report that I took my car to the tire shop and they confirmed that the TEKTON was not accurate, as it was off by a whopping 4 PSI for one and 4.5 PSI for the other. My old slime model was off too, leaving me without an accurate tire gauge.
I'll have to return these for a refund, luckily I'm within the 30 day cutoff for Amazon returns.
I can't and don't recommend this product.
- Non-slip texture makes it easy to hold onto
- LED light makes it really easy to use in the dark
- Easily forms a seal with the valve stem to get an accurate read on the first try (this was my main gripe with other gauges I've used)
- Awesome price!
I'm not sure what else one would need from a tire gauge, so this one gets an A+.
**UPDATE** As of 6/18/2013, this thing is still working perfectly, even though I've dropped it a dozen times. Also still using the original battery. Others I've used seem to drain the battery, regardless of how often I use it. I'd mention the battery manufacturer, but I'd hate to be accused of working for Duracell--OOPS!
**2nd UPDATE** As of 8/7/2014 it still works great, and, no joke, STILL using the original battery.
On the good note - Overall fit and finish is superb, and after all the glowing Amazon reviews I was pretty psyched for this unit. The body is a satin almost chameleon color between red and black and feels velvety to the touch. The ergonomic design feels excellent in your hand, and the blue read out is easy to see at any time of the day. Switching between measurement ranges is also very easy, just click the button at start up to cycle through them. It would have been nicer to have a specific sequence to initiate changing the range though. I found myself accidentally clicking it and having to cycle all the way through to PSI again.
The slightly bad - The illuminated nozzle is a nice touch, but I dinged it half a star because it's fairly low light. I've tried using it at dusk and it would have been nice if the ring actually projected a decent light to more easily find the nozzle. I've tried using this on a friend's motorcycle late into the day, where the readings must be taken off the tire itself and neither of us knew the PSI required beforehand. I attempted to use this as a light, but the blue light is far too weak to the task. I understand the need to balance battery life, so it would be nice to have a second trigger for a brighter light.
The bad - The 2.5 star ding is because of the functionality itself. I tend to over-inflate my tires a little bit, so I can fine tune the pressure by releasing air. For example my car's tires are 35 psi cold. I inflate to 36-37 psi and hold the gauge at an angle to deflate, and measure again. When used in this manner, the gauge DOES NOT take the new reading until turned off. This is a MAJOR PITA. I have to hold the main button down for a few seconds, turn the unit back on, wait for a boot up, then retake the pressure. Bleed air, rinse and repeat until finished. Considering I have 10 wheels to take care of (2 cars and a motorcycle) this is a huge inconvenience and borderline unacceptable.
The unacceptable - Both units are inaccurate. I have an old dial gauge that has been compared against by my local mechanics equipment, and found to be very accurate. The dial gauge consistently reads 3 - 5.5 PSI lower than both tekton units. For clarity sake this evening I ran down to the local mechanic to make sure the dial gauge wasn't going out, and to compare the accuracy to their equipment. Lo and behold the tekton units proved to be reading far too high. This is unacceptable on a motorcycle where a few PSI is much more critical than on a car.
I was attracted by the price and raving Amazon reviews, but extremely let down in this instance. Please look elsewhere for your tire gauge needs!
Used it once readings weren't correct and once I used it my tire continued to loose air. Horrible horrible product do not buy. Ruined my Saturday morning and cost me more than the pos thing.
