Their Claim: Provides light source for dark places
My Verdict (details below): True
This runs off AA batteries. Just open the cover and pop in. Very easy.
This has TWO lights. One is at the top and is a spotlight (not visible in the photo; it's at the end you can't see). This is very handy for directional activities. The other you CAN see and is about 15 LED lights. They are VERY bright. I used them for a repair in a dark corner and it got the job done. Just don't stare at it or you'll see stars for quite some time.
It has a hook, also not visible, that is very cleverly designed. It fits into a rear recess, which is easily pulled out and up to hang it. It swivels so you can angle the light. I have one hanging on my breaker box for black outs, so I always know where it is. The other fits very nicely in my toolbox. I don't know how long the batteries will last, but I suspect a year under normal use.
These are a GREAT purchase. If you're a pro tech person, you might want a plug in model with more illumination. But for the DIY'er in you, this fits the bill perfectly. I was expecting them to be cheap and not bright; they are neither.
I ordered a set for my son's house. They're that good.
Once mounted, however, I found the magnets pretty strong - strong enough, even, that I was able to leave one of these stuck to the corner of a doorway all night without falling down, and another "precariously" balanced on a wall with only the corner of 1 conduit for magnetic pull against gravity. No complaints about magnet strength. Of the three remaining units where I did not have to Krazy Glue the magnet back on, however, I found on one of them, that I could not screw the back on after battery replacement too snugly. It just wouldn't work if I did.
Cover off: worked. Cover screwed back on securely: didn't work. Cover loosely screwed back on: worked. So really, two of the four units I bought had "problems". Easily remedied ones, but don't wait for an emergency before you tear these packages open. Give them all a test drive.
Another unfortunate thing was that the battery life of the supplied AAAs left something to be desired, which didn't surprise me. I got about 10 hours constant-on out of them, which isn't bad for most situations, but keep the battery burnthrough in mind when evaluating your intended use. Premium store-bought AAAs gave me some better longevity, but these aren't meant to light your home.
