I'd have to give the overall story line 5 stars but if I could give the 4th book a higher rating I would. I loved the story of Dizzy. The author should have named the book Rhythm Man because he was. Exactly. That. All the books kept me up late at night. They had that 'had to finish' quality that I love in a book. Music, sex, angst. Lots and lots of angst. There are dark areas of abuse, drug use and cheap, meaningless sex that the stories had but the ultimate H/h story lines were centered about trying to find 'the one'. If this is a difficult subject for the reader they may have issues but the author handled the situations better than expected.
Each story had it's own HEA.
I found the sex scenes in book 4 the best out of the 4 books. They were more detailed and better written. If you're going to go down the path you may as well do it well. The first three books had scenes but I don't feel they were written as best as they could have been. I loved that the 4th story had an intertwined quality where there was an overlapping of a previous book. While reading a different perspective, you hear and see part of a previous story. It sounds confusing but after reading the other 3 books you can put it all together.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. All the Tempest band members have their own demons and all the stories cover different issues. I'm hoping her other books are just as good.

Irresistible Refrain : 4 stars
Irresistible Refrain is an irresistible story of a broken girl and the boy she's loved since she was little. Music, a fast-paced life and the fact that she's with his best friend instead of him made this so compelling!
I loved both Lacy and Bryan, as well as the other characters who were a part of the cast as well.

Enticing Interlude : 4 stars
Enticing Interlude was definitely enticing, and if not for the way Bridget reacted when a stranger (to her) told her lies about Justin, I'd have given this 5 stars - but that just frustrated me too much! Several of the characters who appeared in Irresistible Refrain, and even in Mankin's Brutal Strength series made an appearance here as well.

Captivating Bridge : 5 stars
Captivating Bridge broke my heart into a thousand pieces, and it even did it more than once! War... so lost and sad and lonely, and Shania, equally lost, but strong and full of love. The two of them together could have either completely tanked or become stronger than a diamond! Definitely darker than the first two stories in this set!

Relentless Rhythm: 5 stars
Relentless Rhythm is Dizzy's story, and it's even darker than War's, intense and very, very hot! There was so much darkness in Dizzy's past, it's actually amazing that he is able to function at all! Needs a trigger warning for child abuse, but if you can stomach that, the story is beautifully written, and it also shows that it's possible to survive

Overall rating for the boxed set: 4.5 stars adjusted to 5

This is a fabulous box set that any reader will sure love. 4 Amazing books!! Here is a snippet of my reviews from each book...

I was asked to beta read this one and I got to say...I loved it. But I love anything Mankin writes. Her Rock and Roll characters are some of my most favorite ever. They are real, they go through hell and back, and they are totally HOT! What’s not to love, right? But this book is more than just a couple hot guys playing in a band. This story is deeper and darker than Mankin has previously gone before. She delves more into the fray of drug addiction.

Like always, we still get to see scenes with all of our old favorites like Avery and Marcus. But we are going into a new territory for the band Tempest. They are having to find a replacement singer since War left and signed on with someone new. This is not going to be an easy adjustment on anyone’s part. Tempers will flair and it may very well get the best of some. But it is something that each one of them will have to work through. Especially Justin and Bryan.

I also love the fact that Mankin leaves information for the topic at hand for those who are also struggling. She is making a difference. Of course she could just write a book about depression...give us a happy ending with rainbows and butterflies...but she doesn't. She gives info for those that want to take the next step in finding the help they need. And for that I applaud her.

I don't want to go much more into the story because I would hate to spoil it for you. Just know I loved it so much and I think you will too. It is very suspenseful towards the end. The kind that has you sitting on the edge of your seat. Mankin has once again written a book that made me feel!

Rockstar romances are a guilty pleasure for me when they’re good. Unfortunately, I’ve also read some really bad ones that I had to DNF, and I almost never DNF books. Michelle Mankin is a new author to me, so I didn’t know what to expect with this series. I started with the audiobook of Irresistible Refrain.

Irresistible Refrain

I'm glad I gave it a try because it was wicked good, so good I bought this boxed set. It fed my habit and re-addicted me to this sub-genre. I loved the characters, the plot, the way she told the backstory, everything. It’s funny because so many of the details in this book have been turn offs for me in some other books: a character that’s an addict, a band member with questionable character, hostility within the band. These are usually things I don’t enjoy because the fun part for me is the rock ‘n roll fantasy, and those elements, if overdone, kind of pop that bubble. I mean, I want a good plot with some conflict, but there have been some series that I haven’t continued because I found one of the band members to be too creepy to be redeemed or there was constant fighting between band members, which can be a downer, especially in a series where those other band members will become the leads. However, Mankin uses these elements and pulls it all off. She put her characters through the wringer and brought tears to my eyes a few times, but it paid off for them in the end. Refrain wasn’t so dark as to be a turn off. It was a fun romp while still being realistic, and it had some meaningful themes without being preachy or heavy handed.
