I've read all of her books and loved how she had developed her characters over the years. The heroine was in few other books and it was great that she is now finally grown and has her own story.
I am very impressed by this book - so much so, I might go in search of the rest of the series. Gennita Low has a gift of writing beautiful prose. Her descriptions are full of color - they bring the pages to life. A feat not easily accomplished. Some of the most descriptive are included in the steamier scenes (not smutty or anything) but still...her way with words is magnificent.
"She tasted like the hidden nectar that the hummingbirds in his garden sought. Sweet. Precious. She felt soft as the rose petals of his prize bush of roses. She was everything he wanted and needed, and he drank like a man lost in the desert too long, and tasted more than desire. Here was the taste of need and love."
Wow...that's just...beautiful. And many more where that came from, but I won't list them all here. If you want them, then get the book! ;)
As for actual content, she's created a wonderful heroine in Grace. Young and naive but still fiercely independent and capable. None of this doormat stuff that seems to dominate the genre lately. I love how she juxtaposes Grace with Sandra's character - Sandra being an older mentor-type. Similarly, she juxtaposes Ed and Jed vs. Lance too. The decisions and mistakes that Sandra, Ed and Jed made when they were younger and mixed up in a love triangle of their own counter-imposes itself on the direction that Grace and Lance take as they navigate through their own conflicts, goals, and motives. It was wonderfully done. And the mystery behind the arms dealings, kidnappings, and political corruption was a nice backdrop that added to make a tumultuous ride. Overall, a nice blend of easy romance reading (albeit steamy, but not requiring much mental faculty)and the mystery portion (which is where your mind could do its somersaults and exercise). That balance helped to wrap up the book quite expertly.
One thing that took some getting used to - switching the omniscient point of view. Literally, it switches from paragraph to paragraph without warning. We get the perspectives of secondary and even terciary characters in the book. It was the first time I've read a novel of this sort. I can expect some novels to switch perspectives between two or maybe three characters; but most of the time that switch happens between chapters, not paragraphs. It was confusing at times. Add to that getting into the minds of all the characters - it had me re-reading parts a couple times just to understand it. However, I think it grew on me as the book wore on. It was a little refreshing to see things as an "outsider" through the eyes of the second and third string characters at times. So I don't necessarily consider this to be a point of criticism, but rather an upfront warning to prepare future readers.
Definitely recommended read for those that are looking for a little action-packed romance! Now off to find the rest of the series.
While working for GNE at a rally she lands in the middle of political kidnapping and has no idea what she's seeing.
Lance Mercy, a brilliant tracker for COS Command, has landed in a murder. He's got a double agent to find and a political defector to get into safe hands.
He spots Grace at the rally in the middle of his pickup zone. He doesn't know Grace but once he learns his pick up zone has been breached and someone else has grabbed his defector, she falls under suspision.
Grace quickly figures out whats up and being Jeds daughter, well, you get the drift. She lands in it with both feet and loads of ability.
This one has loads of great characters. Some we've seen before and some we've never seen. Loads of action and once Grace and Lance figure out they are attracted to each other you can guess where its leading. LOL
A good solid book full of great characters both the good guys and the badies.
We even get Jed on scene. Gotta love that guy.
Another five star all the way. Can hardly wait for the next one.
I really enjoyed the strong, sexy, intelligent and witty characters in this book so much I could not put it down. This story is a sensual and sizzling puzzle, driven by observation, word play and a commando style action. A definite "must read" book.
