To kill common household ants, simply place TERRO Liquid Ant Baits stations near indoor areas where ants are spotted. Ants enter the trap, consume the liquid ant bait and return to the nest where they pass on the bait to the rest of the colony. TERRO Liquid Ant Baits are specifically formulated to allow worker ants to consume the product and survive long enough to carry the liquid back to the nest and deliver a dose to the rest of the colony . The liquid ant bait stations prevent the bait from drying out and provide the ants with a continuous supply of liquid, day and night. Monitor the baits regularly for activity, but do not interfere with the ants or baits. Replace with additional baits when the first set is depleted. Depending on the size of the ant infestation, complete control may take up to two weeks.

These Terro traps work. The ants are all over them. And then they die. However, there is one claim made by the manufacturer that has not held true (thus 4 of 5 stars); The claim is "... Ants enter the trap, consume the liquid ant bait, then return to the nest where they pass on the bait to the rest of the colony." That's not what happens here. Instead:
1) The ants file into the opening and many if not most die right in the trap, near the entrance.
2) All the ants in the area are then gone for a few weeks.
3) Somewhere during that time ALL THE DEAD ANT BODIES IN THE TRAP DISAPPEAR!
4) In a few weeks the ants are back again and we have to set down a fresh trap.
So it seems as though not enough poisoned ants made it back home to actually kill off the colony. As to where the dead ant bodies go I have no clue. And, I don't really want to know. It's all sort of creepy.
But we continue to buy this brand because it does control ants in the house.
I have 2 curious dogs and they never even go near them, so that makes me feel good about using these, too.
My only issue is that sometimes the ants move the trap and the liquid falls out onto the floor making it super sticky. My exterminator taught me a cool trick - turn the trap over and cut the red portion off so the ants will crawl in without having any liquid leak out. Give it a try!
I placed all six bait traps around the kitchen and left the house. Returning an hour later, all three of the ant trails had zeroed in on one of the bait traps and were going from the trap back to one assumes the colony. It is very difficult to not want to get rid of all the ants but I ignored my impulse and left them alone. This morning every one of the ants was gone, even the dead ones that surrounded the bait trap. This product is incredible!
I probably could have one set one bait trap and next time I have any ants I will try that approach.
At this point I don't care if they all die, just stay out of my way!
You should wear a glove when cutting the opening and placing them, and like others have said, this is liquid and it's very sticky, so be careful when placing or moving or it will spill. I've put these in the path where the ants were coming from, under furniture and on top of the refrigerator, and we don't bump them and the animals can't get to them.
