Mr. Rhody's novel, THEO & The Mouthful of Ashes, is a captivating novel on several levels. The book, set in the 1950s does a masterful job of capturing the culture, feel, and attitudes of middle-America during those memorable times. It also weaves a mystery that will challenge the most ardent mystery reader's ability to solve. And, the novel is set in the very-real Frankfort, Kentucky's capitol, and will appeal to readers who are familiar with the quaint, historic city that's the seat of Kentucky's government. If you want to experience a great mystery with memorable characters and a story you will long remember,I would highly recommend THEO & The Mouthful of Ashes. You won't regret it.

THEO & A Mouthful of Ashes is a mystery/thriller, but much more. If close to my age you have memories of the 1950s, making this something of a nostalgic read. If you came along a bit later, substitute historical. Either way, Ron Rhody is a son of Kentucky who was there back in the day. As the old saying goes, "if you trust the teller, you'll trust the tale." You can trust Ron Rhody to seamlessly weave dire deeds and mayhem through state politics, journalism and aristocracy. There's also a band of nomadic Gypsies in the mix, and more than a few other surprises. Oh, and of course there's the Kentucky Derby. At its heart, this is a murder mystery with a bizarre and gruesome signature at the scene of the crime. As the characters come to life the reader will begin to feel there's some sense to it all, and then maybe wonder if there really is. As you turn the pages, you might want to consider enjoying a glass of bourbon over one or two ice cubes, with a bit of water if you must. It's a Kentucky tradition.

This prequel to "Theo's Story" brings the reader to a deeper understanding of Theo, and his path through the fields of journalism, small-town politics, and colorful Kentucky locals. Frankfort and the Bluegrass state themselves are interwoven as characters in this story. If you have any interest in the South and its own multi-faceted personality, you will find this a wonderful read.

Having grown up in Frankfort I was able to picture it all. Ron Rhody captured the essence of the town while weaving a great story into his pages. I couldn't wait to see what "really" happened.
