Yesterday late afternoon I had some questions about operation of the camera and software so I called Thinkware tech support. The phone number did not seem to be working and I was concerned about the company and the support. I sent an e-mail and posted a request on Facebook as well. This morning I received a call from customer support. WOW, prompt, helpful and not reading a script from some offshore phonebank! The technician was from the company answered all my questions. Outstand customer support and Thinkware is working on the phone number problem I experienced.
I own an X500 with front and rear camera. The video and sound quality of the camera are more than I expected! I have two 16 year old drivers and this camera is great insurance for them, as well as a great training device.
Already the camera has helped. One of my sons came home feeling like he did not see a car and did something wrong because someone blasted a horn at him. I reviewed the camera and saw my son did NOTHING wrong!
My son was making a left turn from a side street into a parking lot. He had his signal on (I could hear the audible sound of the signal in the camera video) and he was driving at a very carefully. As he started his left turn I could see from the rear video footage that the car turned onto the street behind my son, rapidly accelerated, and started to pass my son on the left.
If an accident had occurred, the video clearly showed the other party at fault and I was able to use it to show my son his innocence in the matter. The video also made him aware of crazy things drivers do and increased his defensive driving skills. :)
The speaker in the camera is a little soft while driving and I do not see a way to amplify it, however it is audible and I do not see that as any big problem. The sound played back on my computer is very clear and the volume is fine.
Again, I would definitely recommend this product. The product is great, the support is great and in the event of an accident the camera (front and rear) provide great video for your insurance company or the police. I did not wire the camera to use the parking lot feature, however if you have an expensive car I believe this would show anyone damaging/dinging the paint or breaking in.
