Coaxial surge protector that fits and hope to never know if it actually works.I have an OTA that is 45 feet up on a radio tower, so it's just a matter of time before I get a direct lightning hit because of my situation.* I specifically bought this one because of the ability to mount it with the grounding block* I ran RG 11 cable 400ft QUAD SHIELD RG-11 Direct Burial Underground with Floodant Solid Core Coaxial Cable 3Ghz 14AWG 75 Ohm UV RESISTANT PVC JACKET Outdoor Application RoHS Compliant Lower Signal Loss Over RG7 into a F connector end pieces that down sizes the wire PPC RG11 Coax Compression Connectors Qty of 25: EX11N716WS with AquaTight Seal for Quad Shield, PE, and PVC jacket Coaxial Series Cable* 10 Gauge grounding wire was connected from the grounding screw into a grounding block 3 GHz Ground Block - Dual/Twin/Two Port, High Frequency With Weather Seal Boots for Coax (Coaxial) Cable, F Type approved for Antenna, Dish Network, DIRECTV, Comcast, CATV, and more - 2 Ports and then that was attached to an ground rod that was put 7 1/2 feet into the ground.***There are lots of people that are complaining that this surge protector is not made for RG6 or RG11 cables. My cables fit and the F conectors screwed right on, so at this point I don't see an issue****This protection is better than no protection at all*

This item is a must when installing an antenna for over the air purposes. It has a port for a 10 gauge ground wire necessary for surge protection in case of a lightning strike to the antenna mast, protecting your valuable equipment. Even though lightning strikes are rare, but can happen, its piece of mind that it will function as needed should the ultimate happen.

After my cable modem got fried last week during a storm, I was suspect of the bonding on the incoming coax. I ordered this and installed it today. It's significantly more substantial than what was installed at the demarc by the provider. It's in place and I verified the connection to ground. Hopefully this will prevent future damage.

I have had this as a protection for my downstream from the antenna system that includes 3 HDHomerun units for two years now. Two days ago the entire signal went dead and I found it came from this device. I thought it was broken so I tried to find a warranty. Despite what is said in the listing, there is effectively no warranty, so forget trying to get it replaced.

However! I thought about the reset function. This is supposed to happen automatically so I assumed that if it is dead it is because it is really dead because otherwise it would have reset, right? I thought about that and this morning I tried connecting it again. Hey! It worked! So it seems that at least in SOME cases (mine for instance) you need to remove the cables in and out of this and MAYBE wait some time and reinstall the cables and it might work. I wish I had put it back together immediately to see if the removal of the coax connectors on both ends "hard" reset it when it does not "auto" reset if there is any meaning to auto reset at all! I mean, how many times are you aware of an overload so you can debug this? So I thought to share this with you all in case you are searching for RESET in the reviews ;-)

Some other stuff. I have this grounded to a steel bar. If you do not properly ground this thing with the shortest possible wire (use a heavy gauge too) to a proper ground, then it will have much less chance of saving your stuff (which it did in my last case! ALL my stuff is fine! so it DOES work) and then there is another issue that some reviewers missed:

If you have, as I do, a LAN ethernet connection from my downstream gizmos, then you should consider that ethernet cables MOST CERTAINLY DO transfer overloads. 100%. So buy ethernet protection devices and install them in appropriate places to avoid the double whammy of coax and ethernet overload. Don't depend on this surge protector alone.

Just sharing my experiences for you all!

This is one of those things you never know if it's working. It's just insurance againt the many lighting strikes in my area. I haven't noticed any internet degredation with 1 gig speed.

The device came in a sealed poly bag-- brand new condition-- with 2 screws for mounting in the cable box after connecting (recommended). Worked with RG-6 cabling which has an18AWG center wire--no problem. This TII 212 unit looks exactly like the Siemens FSCATV surge device which sells for $70 approx.

I think this one is actually the same device and Siemens puts their sticker on and marks up the price. Time will tell if it is effective as a CATV surge protector. No way to test it except to use it!

Internet speeds and CATV seem to be unaffected and just as zippy as usual. It's a win for $15!

First off, I did some research on this device long before I purchased it. The data sheet from the manufacturer is available here:

tiinetworktechnologies<dot>com/repository/datasheetlibrary/NYMDS036-0710<dot>pdf

Installation instructions are here:

tiinetworktechnologies<dot>com/repository/installationsheetlibrary/92219901-tii_210&212_InstNt<dot>pdf

(replace the <dot> with a period to complete the URL.)

It should be noted that there is a shock hazard if this device is not installed inside a listed indoor/outdoor enclosure. This does not say it won't work, only that you might be exposing yourself to a shock hazard. I simply installed the block in a protected location that is out of the direct weather and not likely to be touched by humans (on a joist under a covered porch).

Three very important characteristics apply to this device:

1) It protects surge from both the shield AND the center conductor. The standard 'block' does not protect the center conductor.

2) Automatically resets. A couple other devices on the market will shunt to ground, but then are done. While the amount of energy dissipated matters (see the data sheet), this device can reset and provide service more than once.

3) Can conduct power. If you use a pre-amp on your antenna or your cable service needs a powered feed to the distribution box, that power will still flow through the coax and this device.

It should be noted that the specifications do indicate a signal loss of roughly 0.2db (they guarantee < 0.3), so some signal will be lost from this device. However, this loss is minimal, and typically less than many cable to cable couplers will cause.

Of course, there is no way to determine if the product works unless I get an electrical spike, but short of erecting a dedicated lighting rod, this is about the best you can get.

In practice, I found the device easy to install, create minimal interference, and resulted in a piece of mind that I'd done all I could to protect my investment.
