Casper Bogart is carving a unique niche for himself: history-based noir. This is most evident in "Titanic Betrayal," in which he surprisingly takes on the legend of the famous ship, dishing up a mini-thriller with more than one clever twist.
The companion story in this volume, "Blood Is Thicker Than Grapefruit," takes us back 50 years or so for another twisty tale of bad behavior and marital mayhem.
Both tales are told in crisp, clean prose and a dash of humor. I plowed through these stories in less than an hour and enjoyed myself every minute. I suspect you will, too.
This new compelling short story from Casper Bogart will take you back in time to the decks of the great and tragic Titanic. It's a must-read, not only for any fan of his other stories, but for those collectors of all things connected with the historical event that "launched" a thousand tales.
And then, a bonus! This edition includes "Blood Is Thicker Than Grapefruit", another grim and entertaining story of love and loss.
Both of the stories in this collection are good, but the Titanic story is really well done. Bogart has achieved what many writers attempt, but often fail to accomplish. He's created a story that builds mystery upon mystery, slowly sucking you in, then running you through emotional turmoil. There are no cheap gimmicks or sudden plot twists, and at the end of the story you're left with a sense of shock and can only wonder what decisions we would have made in the same circumstances.
