If you do not have some mechanical aptitude to modify parts, do not get these. You will need a dremel tool, and other tools (hex bits/drivers) to install these. Significant modification to my dirt bike handlebar ends were required to get these dodgy guards to bolt up. More work was required to keep the right guard from locking up my throttle/grip. Once installed, however, I feel like they would protect my levers from a slow-medium speed crash for flip. They would probably be one time use type guards, which I'm fine with, if that means I can ride back from a crash and replace them later with my levers in tact. If you are a hardcore enduro/off road rider, or MX rider, I would not suggest these. If you are like me, a casual weekend trail rider, they will work fine if you are able to install them correctly.
If I were to go back in time a few days, I would spend the extra $10 or so to get a better pair of handguards, but for now, these will work fine. I will report back should I have a riding incident.
And they do great when riding tight trails with foliage impinging.
Installation took quite a while on my Yamaha XT225. The bar end inserts are crap, I cut lengths of narrow garden hose to make them fit. The inboard clamps are nicer but kind of problematic. Clearance with the brake line (and with the clamps themselves) difficult. Be prepared to trim away plastic, shim with washers and/or the supplied curved oval washers, and move components around, to make them fit. Shorter brake/clutch levers would make it easier than my full-size ones.
All that said, I will probably buy a 2nd set of these as spares. Levers are really cheap these days, but breaking one miles from anywhere can be a hassle.
This product will work, however, things you need to know that I found out through trial and error:
1st Know that your handlebars are already threaded, so the hardware that fits into the handlebar end you will not need except for possibly the washers. ( I bought my own though, I used 2, one flat washer and one lock washer with my OEM bolts.)
2nd remove the plastic cable wire holder with some needle nose pliers, this aids in mounting and you should have just enough room after mounting to put these back.
3rd Loosen your brake master cylinder and also your clutch lever to allow for easier install. To avoid clutch lever end from touching guard I had to move it in approximately an 1/8 of an inch.
I will try and add some photos within the next week
