Topcase: The cheapest of the bunch around ~$14 on amazon.
+ : decent protection, very reasonable price and does not attack fingerprint stains as easily.
- : feels a cheaper than other 2 tested, adds noticeably more weight relative to other cases and pads on the bottom feel cheap and will likely fall off after a few weeks
Overall i think this is a great CHEAP option for the price conscious buyer, initially I thought the Kuzy and Topcase looked similar but when I had them on 2 airs side-by-side, the difference was noticeable.
Moshi: Most expensive ~$60 on amazon at time of review
+ : great build quality, lightest among the three cases, bottom pads look the nicest
- : EASILY PICKS UP STAINS! ITS A STAIN MAGNET
Overall the price is pretty steep given the stain problem
Kuzy: $25 on amazon at time of review
+ : feels a lot nicer than topcase and bottom pads definitely more durable and made out of rubber rather than the cheap soft pads of Topcase, lighter than Topcase but slightly heavier than Moshi, stain resistant
- : the build quality isnt as nice as Moshi but the tradeoff of not having stains is definitely worth it
Given value and quality Kuzy is hands down the best.
I really like the feel of the case, a nice slightly rubberized texture. The color I got was black, and it appears slightly see-through when you hold it up to the light. But when put onto the computer, it looks like in the photo, and the apple only shows through due to the glow when it's on. I think this makes the computer less conspicuous when closed and just sitting there.
Fit is tight, and snaps on with no movement once secured.
Not as good:
Mine had a few MINOR artifacts on it from the manufacturing process, but you can't notice them unless you're inspecting the case directly. It snaps on easily. The feet as some have mentioned are slightly cheap feeling, they are basically foam stickers but do not feel like they will fall off. After seeing these feet- commented on in other reviews- for myself, I have no problem with them so far and I would prefer they keep this price and use these feet, than start using some rubber ones that would increase the price.
As others have mentioned- this is extremely difficult to get off. I was worried I was going to bend the screen trying to get the thing off. I was trying to remove it because I didn't notice that *there is a correct way to put the top on*- the three snaps have to go on the camera side, otherwise there will be no little spaces for the bottom two snaps to move into, and the laptop won't close completely as a result. I took the tip from instak8 and used credit cards to literally pry it off. I found the best way to do it is to use glasses cleaning cloths around each card (use two) and slide them from the looser side edge closer to the snap until it pops off. Prying with the cards doesn't really help that much, just slide with them mostly. As I said, it feels like the screen will break when you do it, so be careful!! (It didn't bend or dent) Or, just put it on the right way to begin with ;).
I only removed one star for the lack of directions with the case. (I would have only removed 1/2 star for the lack of directions if I could.) But you could say it was my lack of noticing, and that the snug fit is what makes the case last for a long time, which is good. Overall, for my Macbook Air 2013 model it was a great buy that I'd recommend. And shipping was super fast!!
Here is the HUGE (for me) flaw though. I got the "rubberized" frosted glass looking one because I thought that it would show scratches less clearly than the crystal clear one. However there is something weird with this one as it is a FINGERPRINT MAGNET. At the end of the day you can see my palm prints and fingerprints all over it. The places where I have touched it are clear and oily looking and the untouched places are frosted glass looking. It is REALLY noticeable and (to me) looks really messy.
I am returning this and getting the crystal clear cover instead. So good case but with a flaw that was a deal breaker for me.
The dimensions fit and all seems well, BUT... It covers one of the two microphones (pinhole on the left side). MacBook Air had only mono microphone before. The 2013 model has stereo and one of the pinholes is covered by the case!
I ordered the case July 9 2013, noticed the issue, informed the seller, was given a 50% discount (not needing to return the case) and was promised a replacement that takes care of the issue, when available... I am still waiting for it.
In the interim I drilled a hole in the case and does not look very good.
Case is otherwise 5 stars. Given the issue and the fact that a replacement is still not available, am downgrading to 2 stars. Would have given 1 star for the product deficiency which makes it unsuitable for 2013 MacBook Air but the seller was responsive and promised replacement though have no idea on ETA...
(I posted a photo showing the issue and the hole I drilled to expose the microphone.)
UPDATE: I contacted the seller again and they did send me the updated model, which does not obstruct the second mic pinhole. LOOKS GREAT! Review upgraded from 2 stars to 4 stars. (1 star taken away for the hassle and the fact that you may still need to contact seller and confirm which version you are getting...)
