I got several of these smart plugs to simplify Christmas lighting in my parents' house. Once you set up first one, the additional units become easier to set up. You can name the plugs and assign them to specific rooms. You can use their app to set up scheduled on and off times and you can use your phone as a remote.. We paired them with Alexa and grouped them under Christmas lights, so in addition to using the timer, my parents can tell Alexa to turn on/off any or all the lights at will. It took some time to set everything up, but they all work flawlessly.

These wete life changers for me. It took a minute to install and when I called Kasa customer service they walked me through it. I recommend labels on each in case you forget what you named each outlet . I have several and have replaced a couple lamps and changed which room they are in so never get them confused. Sturdy and I can turn appliances and lights off with a command to Alexa or on my cell phone or tablet from anywhere. Handy when my hands are full and I don't need to walk into or out of a room. My 97 year old dad used them in his bedroom so he didn't have to turn off the lights once he got in or out of bed. Highly recommend.

I like that they have an app as well as the Alexa integration so I can control outlets from home or while I'm away. Bonus is to setup an Alexa routine; we have our tree programmed to turn on and off automatically so I never have to worry about it. Would definitely recommend and will be buying more!

It works perfectly as intended. I've been using it for my Christmas tree, and now I have the ability to control when it turns on and off. I've set up a routine for it to automatically come on and go off, so I don't have to manually switch it off every time.

The Setup

The setup process is quick and effortless. You need to download the Kasa TP-Link app from the Play Store, and once you have it on your phone, it connects easily. However, connecting it to Alexa was a bit tricky initially. The first attempt didn't establish a proper connection, so I had to try again, and then it connected seamlessly. The app initially claimed it was connected, but it wasn't. I just had to repeat the process to ensure a successful connection.

I gave it 4 stars primarily because you have to download and use the Kasa TP-Link app. I would prefer a direct connection to Alexa or the Smart Life app. That way, I can manage all my plugs through a central app instead of needing multiple apps for different types of smart plugs.

Quality

The plug itself is of good quality. It feels durable and made of high-quality plastic that will withstand the test of time.

Conclusion

I would recommend purchasing it again if I had other Kasa TP-Link smart products. Otherwise, I would opt for another smart Wi-Fi product that seamlessly integrates with my existing smart products.

Very happy to find the Kasa WIFI switches and dimmers

I have been using X-10 dimmers for years, waiting for someone to finally make a WIFI switch with dimming capability at an affordable price. When the Kasa products became available I decided to give them a try.

Being new at this, at first I did not clearly understand the well thought out Kasa instructions. I thought I was supposed to connect the dimmer to my HOME wifi. I finally understood that the process is to first connect the Kasa app on my smart phone to the TP-LINK wifi, and THEN, once this connection is established, connect the app to my home wifi. Once I understood this, the rest of the setup process for the first dimmer was extremely easy and well thought out. Setting up the second and third dimmers I purchased went very quickly.

I also like the great flexibility in the app. When setting up timers to dim the three sets of lights, the process allows you to choose one of several dimming settings (e. g., 20% of regular brightness). I did so, but found the brightness at the lowest preset was still too high. To my great satisfaction, it is easy in the app to change the value of each preset, enabling me to achieve the dimming level I needed.

As for the smart mini-switches, what a great price when purchasing a pair! And, they install just as easily as the smart dimmers. And, I like the ability in the app to label each installed device as to its location and what it controls.

I have several of these now and they are an awesome device. The setup is simple, plug them in, connect to the wifi, and you're done. This time of year (Christmas) they are excellent for switching lights on and off. You can use Alexa, the Kasa app (including the widget on the iPhone home screen), or set up schedules. I have my Xmas lights turning on and off and specified times throughout the day, different days of the week. I have a routine on Alexa that turns multiple plugs off when I say goodnight. You can also see a report of how long they have been on etc. Simple to use and wildly effective. I've never had one fail me yet.
