There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
So I moved the TP-link to an outlet in an un-insulated garage, again, all green lights on the TP-Link and when I went 15 feet away and outside of the garage with only a sheet of plywood and vinyl siding between my phone and the TP-Link, signal was "average".
So it should do the job to connect home security cameras on my garage but just barely. If you are looking at wifi-extenders for this or a similar purpose, I recommend something stronger.
But that's not what inspired me to write a review after all this time - we changed internet providers which meant setting up a new router and that meant, of course, adding the extender to the new network. I've spent 30 minutes on the project and I'm calling it. The process LOOKS simple per the support page but I have had so many 'an error occurred please try again' messages I'm going to throw it away.
So, if you want a wi-fi range extender to just install and ignore; I highly recommend the RE220. If you need an extender that can support changing networks (like if you travel) then this is not the way I would go

If this is for a stationary device such as an Apple TV or such thing it works great. Its NOT for your iPhone - iPad - etc unless you don’t mind switching.
For some its perfect. For others not so much.

Update: I never returned it so I decided to give it another chance. At the moment I'm fantasizing about leaving it in a burning paper bag on the doorstep of someone I don't like... Or even worse, not set it on fire and hope they try using it.

I just moved my office to a sunroom on the second floor of the house that is almost as far away from our modest router as it could be. We pay for 100/10 basic internet and the router does an adequate job, but I noticed that in this new room the signal was weak.
I was skeptical about devices such as these knowing that mesh networks are the way to go, but given the price I decided to try it just to see if it might help.
Before setting it up I tested my internet and on my 2.4ghz wifi was getting 9.7mbs download/10mbs upload.
I set the extender up, which was very easy and took only a few minutes, retested with fast.com and my speed has jumped to 81/11mbs - a substantial and surprising leap. The 5ghz network likewise gained at least 25-30mbs more on the download. I tested with Ookla Speedtest just to make sure there wasn't bias through fast.com, and while the numbers were a bit more humble (~10/10 - 41/11), it is still a significant and noticeable boost in the quality of the signal.
For now I am impressed - it does exactly what it says it is supposed to better than I thought it would.
