Our internet provider upgraded the internet to high speed services earlier this year, so I had to replace my old modem and router to enjoy the new internet speeds. To save money by not buying separate modem and router units, I decided to find a combo modem-router. After researching for days, and bearing in mind about the suggestions that separate units of modem and router might perform better in some case, I decided to try this TP-link modem-router because of some very good reviews and a good price. Just like most home users that use internet for common daily uses (without complicated configuration for special networking needs), I have been using it for half year now, without any issue. It is basically plug-and-play, the only step that I needed to do apart from putting together the unit and the cables was to call the internet services provider and provide them with the MAC so that they could activate the new modem. It works pretty well, our internet runs at expected if not better speeds.

The one TWC uses didn't work very well.
The one that TWC charged me for was a Ubee DDW365 Wireless DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Gateway.
It didn't work very well and had issues with it.
With this i saw my average speed jump from 35 to 40 to 50.
I have with TWC 50/5 net so the extra speed means faster downloads.
the slowest I have gotten so far with this modem is 45 and that is on WiFi.

Purchased this as my area is being upgraded to the new Time Warner M AXX service (gigabit speed). It was easy to set up, works great, and definitely a big improvement in signal strength. I like that it's just one device (it's the modem and the router combined) instead of two - easier to deal with. Also, I appreciate the small feature of a power button. Occasionally I have to reboot the router, and I like being able to just hit a button rather than unplug and replug, as my router is in the top of a closet area. It's a small thing, but I appreciate it.

Works great, good price.

update - tp link sent me a new one without the bugged firmware, now the port forwarding works as it should. i pay for 200down and 20 up, with this im getting about 230~ down and 25~ up last time i did a speed test. i dont know if its the router that gives a faster speed or twc not capping my speed at what i payed for, at which i have no problems with that.

the wireless n seems to work fine far as i can tell, the wireless a/c seems a little bad, but that might be cause by my a/c adapter, which has lots of 1 star reviews.

other then the SSID name bug thingy i mentioned at the bottom of my review, which is still there but not a big problem. never have to touch that setting after setting it up anyways. i cant find anymore problems with this router.

if your going to buy this and need port forwarding, find out if your ISP has the updated firmware. if you dont need it there shouldnt be any reason bot to buy it if you need a new router/modem combo.

i saw all the 1 star reviews about the port forwarding bug, the oldest review i saw about the bug was from September. its now January and i hoped the bug would have been fixed by now,so i bought it. TL;DR its not fixed yet

go to advanced - nat - port forwarding, will freeze the modem making the internet not work as well.you will need to be unplugged from the wall and back in to get it to work. i have asked TWC to update the firmware only to be told i already have the newest firmware, which is a lie. there are a few review on amazon where people RMA theirs and got a new one with a newer firmware that fix the bug. that means the new firmware it done and ready.im guessing tp link has yet to sent it to ISPs for them to push the update, or the ISPs didnt feel like it.

Dear someone who bought something,

Thank you for the feedback regarding your recent experience with our product.

We are sorry that you have experienced these inconveniences while using the device.

Unfortunately, at this time, all other ISPs have rolled out the firmware update except Time Warner, who we are working with to issue the update as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we can gladly replace the CR700 with an already-upgraded unit through an advanced replacement RMA.

If you would like to pursue replacement with an upgraded unit, please contact our 24/7 support team at the email address below, and we will be happy to assist you.

Best Regards!

I purchased this product because I was tired of paying for my own cable modem router.

Those 3 words are all separate but inclusive. This TP-Link Archer CR700 is a two-in-one cable modem/router. Specifically it combines a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, NAT router, 4-port switch and wireless access point into one device to serve as the central hub of a home network. DOCSIS (the technology behind cable broadband services) is available in different variants or standards with 3.0 being the latest and greatest.

I am using this as a replacement to the standard Comcast cable modem router. I purchased this after reading reviews and comparing them to my needs. If you're a heavy gamer, this may not be for you in the long run. If your a simple streamer, this device is fantastic!

I have not had any real issues with my cable modem router. Unlike some, I do like the design and because it was literally a one-time fee, I am no longer burdened with the monthly rental fee from AT&T or Comcast (the only providers in my area). I am glad that I did, because this device looks and feels a lot more solid and of better quality than the ones that the bog companies provided.

I am not really a big fan of modem/router combinations, because one may break while the other may not or you may want to upgrade one but not the other. I'm sure you can most likely use just one part (either the modem or router or cable port) in conjunction with another, supplemental element (i.e. modem from this device + router from another). However, I did like the fact that it is really, really convenient for the devices to be just a device. Saves a lot of space and for me, I really did not need the most powerful system on the market!

Once I finally got this installed, it works wonderfully.
