I replaced 8 older security cameras around the outside of the house with TAPO 2K QHD Security Camera Outdoor Wired version of the cameras. These will work well with either wired (Cat 5/6) or WiFi network connections. You will need to provide power to the camera, these are not battery powered. I already had older POE cameras in place so Cat 6 with power was already there. I used a POE splitter to split LAN and Power for each camera.
The cameras work well using rtsp to stream to both Agent DVR and Zoneminder. I set the cameras to the max resolution and matched that in the NVR app settings and all is well, nice video quality.
NOTE: For third-party apps/NVRs, you must configure the camera account in each camera's settings under "advanced." This will be where you assign the Account ID and Password for your NVRs, they will not connect without this being configured properly. You won't need to set up the account if using only the Tapo App.
The RTSP strings look like this -
Zoneminder - rtsp://Cam_accountID:Cam_PW@Cam_IP address:554/stream1
Agent DVR, Network Camera - rtsp://Cam_IP address:554/stream1
Put the Camera Account ID with Password (in their respective blanks).
Overall, the cameras were easy enough to install and they work well using the Tapo app alone (with microSD cards capturing events) and Zoneminder or Agent DVR. I would use these cameras again if needed.

I would have given this 5 stars if occasionally it did not go offline. Not sure if that's the camera's fault or my mesh WiFi so I'll have to figure that out.I was not relishing trying to get power to my outdoor cameras. I'm concerned about aesthetics so I didn't want anything ugly providing power and communications. This being WiFi and battery powered filled-the-bill precisely. Besides, I was not looking forward to crawling through the attic and getting down near the eaves. Face in the insulation is not something I can stand. I did not want to, nor could I afford hiring an electrician either.Enter the Tapo camera. The camera looks great when in position and wide field-of-view is a bonus. I appreciate the ability to zoom in on areas of interest. The spotlight feature is really nice when it's dark and there are different levels of brightness you can choose which saves on battery if that's a concern. 2K resolution provides excellent clarity for a camera at this price point. The camera has a built-in speaker, microphone and siren which is nice.I travel often and this gives me piece of mind as I can monitor the property remotely. I also have several home automation devices of the Kasa or Tapo brand and they seamlessly integrate. For example I can turn on specific lights when something is detected by the camera. Whatever you can imagine to automate, you probably can.I provided a separate review on the solar panels I connected so I don't need to recharge the batteries manually. This truly is a wireless solution, and I'm very pleased with the result.

Camera setup was easy and has some nice features like an option to use WiFi or Ethernet, geofencing, being able to alert you to specific occurrences such as a car detected, person detected, animal detected, and if someone crosses a defined area or line. It has an alarm, although not very loud but enough to let someone near it know they’re being recorded. There are also 2 LED lights for recording, but it’s not something that will light up anything (like the ground), even when set to 100% brightness, but is intended to enhance the video quality. I turned it off so it’s not obvious when it detects motion and is actively recording. You can also turn off the LED status light so it doesn’t call attention to it as much.
The thing I don’t like is that the inside of the lens sometimes “fogs up”, even when mounted indoors, making it impossible to identify anything. It tends to clear up if I turn the camera off for a few minutes. Other times, in daylight when the lens isn’t foggy, the video isn’t bad. I have concerns it will get extra foggy should it be humid, cold, or raining.
Overall it has nice features, but poor video (or perhaps this one is defective). I set the video resolution to the max of 2K and also tried HDR mode for increased clarity, so this was as good as it gets. Even at that, after dark with outside lights on, it’s impossible to identify someone 7’ below where the camera is mounted.
UPDATE: The video has been clear after that first day or so. I’m thinking some moisture had gotten in and it just had to burn off in the sun. I added another photo of someone about 25’ out with a leaf blower, and the quality is pretty good. I would definitely recommend.

You can get cloud storage for one or multiple cameras so you don’t over pay if you only have the one and save if you have multiple. There are also 7 and 30 day plans for the storage so you can pick the length of storage they’re I’ll keep and have the option to download footage directly from the app.
It has auto updates feature and you can choose the time of day or night for it to do so.
It has a slot for local storage but the cloud is much more convenient (unlimited).
Person detection works flawlessly, and the movement detection works even too good (it picked up a bug flying 5-6ft from the camera, picks up light changes- car headlights and you can hear a lot)
The best feature that sold me on this thing besides the price was the option to talk to whomever was at the door. It is a two way radio.
I have not had any problems so far with this guy, other than the fact that I had to lengthen the cable as it did not reach to the outlet I wanted to use, but you can also use an extension cable instead of being extra like me 😂
