Update: after 6 months now the internal switch for controlling the power has apparently broken and the outlet is now always live
I've since removed the plug and deleted the Kasa app. Kasa should know better.
Works as advertised and seems like a useful tool in tracking your energy usage.
I can't speak to it's accuracy, but it seems believable.
I like that it's mobile. So, once I figure out that my cable box runs at 17 Watts when it's 'off' (true measurement), I can move the plug to a TV or fridge or any other appliance to see how much power that appliance uses (whether it's on or 'off').
My only criticism is that it blocks both outlets in a two outlet wall receptacle. I don't know if that's intentional or just bad design. But, because I don't use it in a permanent location, it's not a that bad. A work around is to just get a one foot extension cord which will free up the blocked outlet.
So far, it seems to be working great. It was very easy to set up and get connected to the internet and linked to Alexa and Google. The main, and really the only, reason I wanted smart plugs for the a/c heater is because I live alone, and every once in a while, I forget to turn off the units when I leave to work. So they end up running all day, wasting electricity. With these plugs, I can remotely turn them off once I remember. Then, if I choose to, turn them back on at some point prior to returning home to get the temp back to comfortable inside the house.
But, I'm not fond of the design of the plug. To be more specific, the way the 3 prongs are positioned. If they would have been positioned the opposite direction (with the single prong towards the big part of the plug), this plug wouldn't take up the whole wall socket. This prevents me from using the other plug on the socket, even when flipping the smart plug around. So I will have to get creative with the socket to be able to be able to plug my other items in. But i guess I'll deal with that.
Bottom line, for me, a great purchase.
* The last time it disconnected, I turned off power to my wifi and unplugged the smart plug, waited 30 seconds and plugged in the wifi. Once the wifi rebooted, I plugged in the plus and went through the reset process.
I've resorted to having to set "auto-off" schedules at set times through the day for safety just in case I forget to turn it off.
I also don't like the fact you need a separate app and plugin for Alexa to recognize it, with the WeMo it came up right away from the Alexa App. With the TPLink you first need to register it and then connect the app to Alexa.
