Editorial Reviews

Review

"TRAGIC is a satisfying, fast yet well-paced New Adult Romance. With awesome writing and storytelling, J.A. Huss captured frames of thoroughly developed characters and a cast of very likable secondary ones (even the so-called villain!) while revealing the edges of the bigger picture. This is the first book I've read of hers. It won't be the last." ~ R. Campbell "Book Soup"

"Tragic isn't your sweet love story. It's powerful and gritty. I'm not a sappy girl, and I don't care much for sappy stories that are too good to be true. This story is filled with angst, lust, tragedy and heartache. It's harsh. It's intense. It's real." ~ Lisa "Lost in Literature"

"J. A. Huss is an excellent writer and made me really care about these two lovers."
~ The Book Runner Top 500 Amazon reviewer

"...there is a finely woven "something different" that captivates..." ~ Luki Mi "book retreat"

"Tragic was a wonderfully told story of a girl that is so close to being completely broken, but still fighting every day to survive." ~ Addicted2fiction

"This is one book that won't be fading into the next one."Shari Bergquist "My Neurotic Book Affair"

"I have seen the name J.A. Huss, but have never read anything by her before Tragic. Well I am reading all her books now."Christine - SheReadsALot

This is a really hard book to rate. Tragic had a lot of problems with it, but despite those problems I still enjoyed reading it. Sometimes when I read a book, I can list off a lot of things that should have been changed or could have been improved.. but just because I have a long list doesn't mean I hated the book. This is one of those cases. So keep that in mind!

One of my biggest problems with Tragic was both a good thing and a bad thing. As soon as I finished the book, I ran and bought book 2. Now on the face of it, that sounds like a great thing, right? But the reason I had to run out and buy book 2 was because I felt like book 1 wasn't a self-contained story. It didn't have a beginning, a middle, a climax, and an ending. I literally felt like the book was cut off mid-story, which was why I had to buy book 2.

So on the one hand, I think Tragic lacked a strong central conflict—that's bad. But on the other hand, it was interesting and captivating enough to make me want to continue with the series—that's great!

I do wish that some of the characters were fleshed out more. Antoine feels so absent from the book, which is surprising because his role is quite important. I mean he's mentioned in the freaking synopsis. And yet he was always in the background, never actually present. Same with Ronin's sister. At the beginning, I thought I was going to love her, but then she totally disappeared! She rarely makes an appearance in the story because it's just 95% Rook and Ronin. I think Tragic would have been a more solid book if the other characters had more of a presence and were better developed.

My other main problem with the book was Rook and Ronin's relationship. I thought it was too much too fast. There was just so much immediate lust, flirting, and sex.

Have you ever wondered who the half naked models in sensual (sexual) positions are on the cover of books? Welcome to the world that Rook enters when she meets a modern young Fabio named Ronin and becomes the next erotica model for the Tragic campaign. Now why this book does not have these two on its cover is BEYOND ME!

Wow, this was really good! If you are in for a love story that is slightly erotic, than this story about abused Rook and smokin' Ronin is for you. I must say, though, that the product description is very misleading as we never see Rook "make it" in the modeling business in this book. She is just a troubled girl that is helped by someone who used to be in her place and was helped in life. The book is more about Ronin and Rook falling for each other and Rook figuring out who and if she can trust her new friends. Also, the PD suggest her past will come back and "get her", but again, not in this book

So, the tone of this book reminds me a little of The Edge of Never by J. A. Redmerski. Rook was in an abusive relationship that she fled but ended up in another state and in a homeless shelter. After being fired from her job and being falsely accused of stealing, she "gets" an invitation to a photo shoot and ends up getting the job. It is there that she meets the beautiful Ronin, who has the same unique color eyes that she has. Too scared to enter another relationship, she is thrilled to get paid to model even if it is for erotica book covers or other "tasteful nudes" not porn (and I quote).

WOW WOW...JUST WOW!!! I can't believe this book was free...I have paid money for books that were such a disappointment and every once in a while, a gem like this comes along and I am so happily surprised.
Rook and Ronin...the perfect couple...she is tragically a damaged soul and he wants to help fix her...as well as be in her life and bed. This story is so different from what I usually read and it is so well written...not so trashy that it makes you uncomfortable...but more realistic and OMG...so sexy and sensuous. I thought I was going to need a cold shower reading the photography shoot scenes...there was so much chemistry in just the author's words on paper, that I thought I would combust...LOL!
I absolutely loved this book so much and am heading out to read MANIC (part 2) next. So excited about this new series!!!!

*****5***** mindblowingly fantastic stars!!

I still don't know how a girl without modeling training or experience got rail roaded into erotic modeling right off the bat. I also don't feel the connection between Rook and Ronin emotion wise.

Also for a girl with a past that Rook has, getting into this kind of modeling? To me that's disaster waiting to happen. Fingers crossed, maybe this tale will get better in the telling in the next book.

so Rook is a homeless, damaged, yet uber hot girl who just happens to fall into the sleazy world of erotic "art" modeling. I can only say what a huge flake she is and seriously? with the storyline of a 22 year old Ronin controlling his "girls" of the modeling world. Rook does get her hair washed, like 14 times in this book, takes lots of showers and gets perversely felt up and used each time she is in front of the camera. honestly the relationship between Rook and Ronin is a total snooze fest and the writing is sloppy at best. I'm done at this point. no need to waste time on sequels, there is better available.
