The Yamaha TBRX504 I received had a problem with its active circuit picking up a local radio station and playing it through my amp. In the passive mode the radio signals are cut out. This guitar can be played without a battery in the passive mode. Anyway, after playing it for a couple of weeks the E string suddenly because about 10db louder than the other 3 strings. I measured the loudness difference with the Sound Meter app for Android, it is a good app. Continuing, the pickup poles cannot be adjusted. I tried raising the E string height, but it made little difference. However, the string can only be raised so high without making it more difficult to play. I changed the strings and the uneven volume problem initially went away, but about 10-14 days later it came back. It seems that after the E string breaks in and becomes looser and therefore vibrates more, it sounds about 10db louder than the other 3 strings. Because the E string has to break in before the uneven loudness problem becomes apparent, the factory will not be able to catch it.
The loud E string problem combined with an active circuit that cannot be used in an environment of strong radio signals, I decided to ask Amazon for an even exchange.
The replacement TRBX504 arrived and I was pleased to find that the active circuit did not pick up a local radio station. On the other hand, this active circuit had significantly less gain that the first TRBX504. The E string volume seemed to be equal to the other 3 strings, but I knew that the string had to break in before a final conclusion could be made.
I adjusted the intonation of G, D, and A strings in that order. When I tried to intonate the E string, I found that it was 10 cents flat at the 12th fret and I couldn’t move the saddle closer to the nut, because the saddle adjustment screw ran out of travel. As I recall, the E string was about 20 cents flat at the 12th fret because I started the saddle adjustment. A local specialty guitar repair shop opined over email, that the factory might have installed the bridge incorrectly, but without actually seeing the guitar in person a definitive diagnosis could not be made.
I also noticed that the E string was beginning to sound louder than the other 3 strings, perhaps about 3db or so. Unfortunately at this point, I decided not to wait any longer for the string to completely break in and I returned this even exchange TRBX504 to Amazon for a refund. Thanks Amazon.
Yamaha makes excellent quality pianos and its made in Japan guitars very probably show the same level of excellence, but Yamaha’s made in Indonesia bass guitars are a question mark in terms of quality control.

Second the build quality is great, the paint on the body looks amazing, a nice deep metallic blue that the photos don't show off as nice as in person. Neck is full length with 24 frets, a nice smooth satin finish, frets ends were all smooth, no sharp edges at all and a nice smooth fret board. The hardware is good, chrome tuners and bridge and a P/J style set of pickups, two volume and one tone control knobs that feel smooth.
I did my own setup after watching some videos, I put on my own new strings right away, a slight truss rod adjustment, lowered the bridge a bit and it's playing and sounding very nice now. For the price this is a great instrument, fine for beginners or anyone really, to get something noticeably better would have cost another $100-200 bucks, and at my skill level this is perfect, a higher end guitar would not make my practicing any easier!
No regrets at all with this bass, love the looks, feel, sound and quality, and at this price I'm super happy!
Highly reccomended for your first bass guitar (just remember to buy an amplifier for it)
I've owned many guitars and basses over the years, but this is one of the best I've ever bought and played!
Plays great , sounds fantastic, extremely versatile tones.
Getting to the quality of the instrument though, it is outstanding quality. Yamaha instruments provide value for money that you can't find with a lot of other manufacturers. Everything they produce seems to be several levels above the price point in terms of quality. I would put this on par with instruments that cost twice as much. There's a reason so many schools default to Yamaha for their students and it's not just based on price. Their products don't have as much character or aren't as pretty as other instruments, but you'd never get more for your money with another brand.
Highly recommended as a first bass!
Note: The metallic blue finish is really a fingerprint magnet, so a microfiber polishing cloth might be a nice add-on to this instrument!
Overall, this bass feels really nice in my hands. Don't let the price tag fool you.
Hasta donde puedo ver la construccion es de buena calidad con un acabado que la hace lucir mas constosa de lo que fue. La utilizo para Rocksmith, el bajo suena bien y responde muy bien a mi limitada experencia, estoy contento con la compra.
