The electronics are housed in a robust metal chassis with a balanced female XLR input and a balanced male XLR output, rugged enough for use at home, in the studio or on tour.

- Adds 18dB of clean gain
- Great for mobile recording and camera microphones
Triton Audio FetHead Phantom
Preamp for condenser microphones
FetHead Phantom is an ultra-low noise, high quality, in-line microphone preamplifier. It provides improved sound for condenser microphones. Small, compact, but powerful, Fethead Phantom utilizes tried and true FET technology to deliver up to 18dB of clean boost. No more cranking your mic preamp and adding unwanted noise to get your microphone to an acceptable volume. Boost your microphone!
- Preamp for condenser microphones
- Low noise Class A FET amplifier
- 18 dB amplification (@3000 Ohm load)
- Lots of headroom
- Frequency response 30hz-100khz (+/- 1dB)
- Z-in 1000 Ω
- Circuit is powered with 24-48V phantom power

Which microphones benefit
FetHead Phantom is specially designed for condenser microphones. It works very well with all condenser microphones. FetHead Phantom is also an indispensable tool for mobile recording and a real upgrade for camera microphone preamps, because it lowers the noise floor.

Phantom power distribution
FetHead's Phantom circuit uses 48V phantom power but also passes it on from its input to the microphone. Your condenser mic is powered with the same phantom power.

Recommended applications
Our FetHead Phantom is recommended for improving the signal to noise ratio and performance in the following situations:
- Recording direct into a DAW interface
- Noisy or low gain preamps
- Mixers/preamps that negatively impact the sound at higher gain setting
- Handheld digital audio recorders
- Condenser microphones
- Miking all types of softer sound sources

This little preamp can be attached to the microphone, between to cables, or attached to the interface. It seems to function the same regardless of location placed. You may find this useful if you don't want to risk the slight chance of handling damage that may come from moving you mic a lot if you're in a situation where that is a concern. Alternatively, you may be on camera and the aesthetic just doesn't suit a certain location in your audio chain.
For me, it loses a star due to minor damage / a manufacturing fault. When attaching the device to my xlr cable, the pressure applied caused the collet to come loose. This isn't major damage and doesn't affect how the device functions. Although, this may speak to the build quality. I may have just been unlucky with the one I received and it can be fixed with some new adhesive. Either way, this is a nuisance for me and may be for some buyers.

I purchased the Fethead Phantom for field recording, to go along with a Zoom H4N and a Rode NTG-2. This particular Zoom/Rode combination is notorious for low output levels, and I found out about the Fethead and decided to give it a try.
I received it, and for some reason, the Fethead was *adding* a large amount of noise to my recordings! Seeing other reviews saying they often ship DOA, I figured that's what it was and swapped it for a new one through Amazon. However, the replacement had the exact same problem.
Turns out, Triton recommends using a REGULAR Fethead (not the Phantom) with the Rode NTG-2, and using the mic with a battery rather than phantom power. This isn't mentioned anywhere on this page, so I wanted to document this in case any other NTG-2 users swing by here. I'll be buying a regular Fethead and posting a review on how that goes.

As a side note from my understanding, whether you use a dynamic or a condenser, phantom power is required to power this pre amp. Phantom is in the product name.
Also, i am one of the lucky ones who doesnt have the radio feedback issues, but im also not close by any local FM or AM radio stations

RE20
SSL 2
1.5 METER XLR Cable
When I connect it like this: SSL2=>CABLE=>FETHEAD=>RE20 - It's working.
When I connect it like this: SSL2=>FETHEAD=>CABLE=>RE20 - It's NOT working.
- I saw on some YouTube videos that it's working on the first setup I mentioned - but not for me.
- I can't really move my mic arm with this - I'm using Elgato low profile arm.
- Also I have the look of this.
I will most likely live without a gain booster, or I will order some point the CloudLifter.
I know that my soundcard has good pre-amps, but I wanted that extra gain boost just to make sure.
