Top customer reviews
I have a cat that goes through scratching posts every 2 months, and I'd rather pay for these than new furniture! Because I buy these things so often, I was looking for something economical, but useful - that is, I didn't want a post covered in carpet or only a foot tall. We don't do carpeted posts because we don't want to make it ok for cats to scratch on carpet - I mean, our house has wall to wall carpeting and a cat can't tell the difference between carpeted stairs and her post! Our cat knows that if it's "rope-y" - that is, covered in sisal rope - it's ok to scratch. Anything else and she gets a talking to.
Local pet stores charge an arm and a leg for any sort of scratching post, and my local superstores didn't have anything in stock. I just received the post today and I was pleasantly surprised to find it is much larger than I anticipated. It's taller and wider at the base than most other posts. This is a positive thing, because it provides stability when your little furperson gets all fired up and decides to tip the post over with the ferocity of her scratching. The post is at least 18" square at the base and about 2.5 feet tall, which is great for long cats.
It's pretty well constructed too. Takes about 30 seconds to set up and they even provide you with a little allen wrench to tighten the single screw. The base is one piece and not folded (other posts fold their bases to save room, and it's a pain in the butt to put together). I'm amazed at how nice it looks. The carpeting is more plush than carpet, which is also a positive point. I have to say that this is a great deal. My cat loves it, it's better than most of the other scratching posts I've purchased over the years, and it's at a really good price point.
You won't be disappointed, and neither will your cat!
I decided to get this post seeing as it had good reviews and a price point that I can easily afford. This post has been the best thing I have bought for my kitten. He actually scratches the post and my furnite is getting less and less damage. I al really happy with this product. It's also easy to assemble just attach the base to the post with the screw and tool provided. Literally took me 30 seconds. This post is also large enough for my kitten to climb a bit (he likes to use it as a step to his other endeavors lol) and he's a large kitten for his age (about 8-9lb and very long.
This would get 5 star review but it didn't come with the bolt... I mean the crucial piece of hardware to make two parts one was missing. This is a serious bummer... Anyway, i had a left over bolt that came off my Mazda Miata (kitties love Mazda Miatas BTW(especially turbo ones)) that worked great. I'm guessing the thread pattern is metric since it's a metric car. This could be a serious inconvenience for the average buyer as they would have to bring a scratching post to the hardware store looking for a metric bolt. How embarrassing, and expensive. Now if i had to guess, this bolt i used was an m10x1. But i'm probably wrong.
Either way, TRIXIE, check your packaging. Lets make sure the bolt is properly secured. Maybe it's Amazons fault. Maybe UPS. It doesn't matter, life is to short(even shorter for kitties) to point fingers at anyone. The product was WAYYY cheaper than the same thing you get in stores, so it more than makes up for it.
With the larger platform, it has never tipped over, which is a problem with many others. Awesome!
I wouldn't mind if it were even a bit taller so my larger cat could stretch out more when clawing, but then it would require an even bigger base so as not to tip over, taking up more room. They don't seem to mind the size.
Mainly, my cats enjoy it & use it exclusively now (rather than furniture), so I'm pleased & would highly recommend this over others--even more expensive--that I've tried in the past. It seems made to last, which is so rare these days!
I would buy another.
