Featuring cutting-edge C-Media IC technology (CM100B chip), TROND AC2 USB Audio Adapter includes a stereo headphone output jack and a mono microphone input jack. It can bypass the defective sound card or the faulty 3.5mm audio port of your laptop/desktop system and regain the audio function for you.

Meanwhile, lots of laptops or ultrabooks only combine headphone and microphone into one 3.5mm audio jack. With TROND AC2 Audio Adapter, your traditional headset could still be used on your laptops. Simply plug-N-play, and start enjoying the simplicity and premium sound that TROND AC2 brings to you.

Important Remarks:

TROND AC2 is designed for computers, surface, PS3/4, and can NOT be used with the USB port of your TV, amplifier, CD player, car or truck;
If the microphone does not seem to work and you have a TS microphone, a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) mono to stereo adapter is necessary to adapt the microphone from TS to TRS;
Most operating systems support multiple audio outputs, but only allow a single one to be enabled at a time. So this manual step of selecting the right audio output from the operating system's built-in audio control panel is essential;
For some computers, please double click the sound icon in control panel and select “USB audio device” as the default device. Otherwise, TROND AC2 USB Audio Adapter may not be able to work plug-N-play.

Microphone Compatibility

TROND AC2 is designed to work with traditional headsets with two 3.5mm TRS plugs. If you have a TS microphone, a 3.5 mm (1/8 inch) mono to stereo adapter is necessary to adapt the microphone from TS to TRS;
XLR-based microphones will not work with this audio adapter, as they will require additional phantom power. This audio adapter does not provide phantom power;
The pink TRS microphone jack provided by TROND AC2 is Mono, instead of stereo. You will hear the right channel duplicated, if you play the recorded audio.

Original Sound Card Stopped Working - This Saved Me!

My microphone port on my computer randomly stopped working a few weeks ago, which made playing certain games difficult because typing takes a lot longer than it does to talk into a microphone. I began searching Amazon for a microphone port bypass type of product, when I came across this TROND AC2 External sound card. The shipping was extremely fast, two days through Amazon Prime and arrived right on time. The package is small and light and comes with a little card board with some important information on it in regards to the product. I plugged it in to my USB slot and than plugged my speakers and microphone into the necessary ports, and within a minute I had everything set up and working, my microphone working great like it did in the past years. I would recommend this product to anyone in the same situation as me where my original sound card when bad. High quality piece of equipment that works wonders. The customer service is also great as they email you as soon as you receive the product asking if there is anything else they can help you with explaining the return process and any trouble shooting if you happen to run into a problem.

Win-7 audio loss - no problem with this little jewel!

I would give TROND 10 stars if I could! This is a solution to Windows 7 losing it's audio! My 3 year old Win-7 Pro install suddenly lost the ability to produce sounds, any sounds. I worked this problem for 10 days, reset devices, uninstalled (built in Realtek) audio drivers and re-installed multiple times and in several renditions (using compatability mode). I updated the motherboard bios, and made sure the onboard sound WAS enabled, read through days of forums reporting solutions to this well known problem, but nothing worked, still I had no sound. A lot of what I do is dependent upon YouTube for directions and without sound, the videos are useless! Bought this little jewel just as a last resort. Should have bought this first! Plugged it in and it WORKS! I now have my sound back! I strongly suggest this for anyone that loses their sound ability in Win-7!!

Simply plug it in, and after a few minutes of installing drivers and updating, it was good to go.

I would like to add that I have not tried the mic part of this item, so I can not say anything on that part. After one month of having it, it is still working excellent. Solved all my problems.

I returned this product due to constant clicking from the microphone line in. Trond contacted me and sent me a newer AC3-A product to replace it. The new product doesn't work with my old Roxio software, but works well with newer non-Roxio software. In retrospect, I wonder if the microphone clicking was caused by my old software and whether the original device would have worked with newer software. Trond's customer service was amazing, as they went above and beyond to replace their product. That being said, I recommend getting the AC3-A due to superior quality. Note that no Trond USB devices seem to work with Roxio Easy VHS to DVD software (old or current).

Cheap way to replace a broken earphone socket

My laptop earphone socket finally gave up after too many attempts by my children to balance the entire weight of the laptop on the inserted earphone jack. Looking at the cost of potential repairs left my eyes watering so I started looking for alternate solutions.

This device is an effective alternative the to in-built earphone socket, as a USB device it is automatically detected by the computer (in my case a Windows 10). For me this automatically muted the speakers and, having a quick look at the audio settings, it sees this as a new soundcard. Sound quality is as good as the original earphone socket and I did a quick check and the line-in works fine as well.

The device itself is well put together, with a solid metal body and the 2 sockets are a tight fit.
My only comments, and hence the 4 stars, is that it is a little bulky attached to the machine, but not excessively so, it also felt a bit loose in the USB port, and, for me, does "waggle" about a bit more than I would like. Though this has not affected the quality of the sound.

All in all a cheap and cheerful alternative to an expensive laptop repair.

What an excellent little gadget , surprisingly good sound. I used it to fix an issue with my soundcard whereby my Mic input wasn't working, one can use this device as well as an installed Souncard at the same time for either Mic in or Line out for headphones, my setup is that I use it for just my Mic input and my Internal Souncard for my Headphones.
Very well made and Windows 7 64 bit instantly recognizes it and installs the drivers automatically.

My only negative is that I felt that it is a bit Pricey when some Soundcards are the same price and have 3D sound etc.

I got this Soundcard as the headphone jack on my laptop stopped working. I have used cheaper USB Sound cards before but they were flimsy. This Trond one is very compact and sturdy and the sound is very clear with no hissing at all like I got on cheaper ones. It does partially block the USB port beside it, but all the USB soundcards do. There are no volume controls on the little device itself but I never use those anyway as I use the laptop volume controls. I would recommend this, it does the job very well.
