BSN TRUE-MASS - Strawberry Milkshake (16 Servings)
Ultra-Premium Protein/Carbohydrate Matrix
TRUE-MASS is an ultra-premium lean mass gainer, designed to support muscle growth and muscle recovery for athletes with above normal caloric needs. * The formula behind TRUE-MASS features a 2-to-1 ratio of workout-fueling carbohydrates to muscle building protein, with 90 grams of carbs per serving and 50 grams of protein at 700 calories. Plus, we included 6 grams of dietary fiber per serving and Medium Chain Triglycerides to round out the nutritional value of each shake and complement BSN’s legendary great taste. Used post-workout, between meals and/or before bed, TRUE-MASS can fuel your recovery from heavy training while providing the nutrients your body needs to keep on building.
Gain with the Best of Them!
TRUE-MASS features BSN’s signature ultra-premium protein formula to feed an athlete’s muscles with the essential protein building blocks. * The unique carbohydrate blend provides the caloric support necessitated by extreme physical exertion, helping the body prepare for and support recovery from intense training. * Healthy fats supply quick-burning fuel to satisfy the serious athlete’s energy demands. * And all these high-quality ingredients come delivered with BSN’s exclusive flavor technology, producing one of the most mouth-watering mass-gaining shakes on the market.
BSN’s Protein Powders vs. TRUE-MASS
BSN’s protein powders, such as Syntha-6 and Syntha-6 Isolate, are comprised primarily of protein and contain only small amounts of fats and carbohydrates, while staying under approximately 200 calories per serving. These protein powders are recommended to supplement protein intake through-out the day and as a post workout recovery shake. While TRUE-MASS is a perfectly good option for these applications as well, its strength lies in its formula of a 2-to-1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein, which is geared towards athletes who require an above normal caloric intake or who have a hard time meeting their caloric intake in a given day.
At BSN, we have designed our products to complement one another. When used together, they can help enhance the overall benefits of your supplementation and workout regimen.
- Mix 4 rounded scoops into 16 oz of cold water, milk or any beverage with a complementary flavor profile.
- Shake in a bottle or stir in a cup
- Using an electric blender to add fresh or frozen fruits, nuts and other nutrient-dense foods can increase the potential of your weight gain shake.

Before True Mass, I have tried Muscle Milk, an off brand from Target and the GNC powder. They all had their short-comings, especially in the taste department. Based on a suggestion from a friend, I decided to buy the True-Mass and I was simply blown away by how amazing it tastes. I mix 3 scoops with 12 ounces of 2% milk and 2 ounces of water and it mixes really well w/o becoming too thick. It feels like I'm drinking a strawberry milkshake and the best part is that there is absolutely no after-taste!
Its been almost three weeks now and I have gained nearly 6 pounds (I workout 3 times a week as well) which may not seem like a lot but knowing how difficult it is for me to put on weight, I'm excited.
Sorry for the lack of detail and poor organization of the review, just putting in my 2 cents while on my break at work ;)
First, note that there is no magic chemical in True-Mass that is not in Syntha-6. Gaining weight is about macronutrient intake, and the difference between the two products is in the amount of protein, carbohydrates, and fat in each serving. True-Mass has a serving size of 145g (3 scoops) for a total of 630 calories and 46g of protein. Syntha has a serving size of 44g (1 scoop), for a total of 200 calories and 22g of protein. If I use three servings of the Syntha-6, I get a 600 calorie shake with 66g of protein. At this rate, I will go through the tub of Syntha-6 in exactly the same time as a tub of True-Mass.
So Syntha-6 is more protein-dense than True-Mass while being about the same in caloric density. In my experience, True-Mass was chalkier and clumpier than Syntha-6. I don't care much about taste since I chug my shakes anyways, but it is hard to down a chunky drink. Whenever I made my True-Mass shakes, I would have to use only 2 scoops instead of the instructed 3 per 16 oz of liquid, because anything more would be too thick (and wouldn't even fit in my blender bottle).
My advice is this: buy the Syntha-6, mix two scoops in with 16 oz of whole milk. This produces a nice consistency of shake and gives you 700 calories (400 from the syntha and 300 from the milk) with 60g of protein (16 from the milk).
After all, trying to gain weight is really about eating a bunch, *consistently*. I would get sick of the clumpy True-Mass after a couple days, but I'll drink Syntha-6 indefinitely!
The mix itself when used according to it's directions is very thick, and sweet. The flavor is delicious, in my opinion, as well. The serving size is huge and will fill up an entire traditional protein drink mixer. Don't expect it to last more than a month. If you take this everytime you workout, it will probably last you 3 weeks. What I especially like about this product compared to other protein supplements is that it doesn't make you bloated, despite the fact that it is a mass gainer. I felt recovered, bigger, and stronger when taking this one. I'm currently trying out different products but will likely return to this one.
