Purchased these “TSA approved locks” and traveled the day after they arrived in the mail. When I CPI Ned up my bags from baggage claim, I discovered that TSA had cut the locks and locked my bags with plastic zip ties - which were impossible to break without a sharp knife/scissors. This was a GIANT inconvenience, as I was not able to get into my bags. Would love a full refund - these locks are NOT TSA APPROVED!!

Let's face it - luggage locks are not designed to prevent someone from stealing your luggage or its contents. Where a standard luggage lock can be helpful is in preventing an airline employee from reaching into your luggage and stealing your valuables - something that happens far more often than people realize. Any luggage lock should be effective in preventing this, as baggage handlers at most can spend a few seconds on each piece of luggage.

Unfortunately, most luggage locks only have a three-digit lock, which amounts to a mere one thousand possible combinations of digits. That may sound like a lot, but hotel cleaning staff can easily go through all possible combinations in a matter of minutes. Since most people use the same combination on all their locks, that means that once they figure out your combination on one piece, they can gain access to all your items.

By adding another digit to the combination on these locks, that increases the number of possible combinations by an order of magnitude. So if it takes a hotel employee ten minutes to go through 1000 combinations, it will take them at least 100 minutes to go through 10,000 combinations. That's enough to get them to move onto the next room.

These luggage locks are solidly built and the combination is as easy to set as with most 3-digit locks. They're definitely worth the purchase price.

Don't buy - these locks have a design defect

I bought two sets of these locks (2 locks in each set, for a total of 4 locks) for a trip abroad. Unfortunately, the three locks I brought on my trip ALL malfunctioned in the first two days, so I could not lock up my luggage for pretty much my entire trip. Apparently, once you enter the combination and take the lock off your luggage, you have to be careful not to let the U shaped top part of the lock swing a certain way or past a certain point, otherwise, it will freeze in place, and you cannot get the U shaped part to go back into the bottom lock.

Since all of the locks were new and I was using them for the first time on my trip, it seems too much of a coincidence that ALL THREE locks malfunctioned, which leads me to the conclusion this is a design defect.

When I came back home, I tried to return them but couldn't because the return period had just expired. I contacted customer service, who was very nice to deal with. Over the course of several emails, they tried to walk me through trouble shooting steps, which worked for one lock but not the other. I will probably not use with lock again for fear of malfunctioning locks on future trip - either being unable to lock my luggage, or worse, being unable to UNlock it. I

I do want to emphasize that customer support was very quick to respond and were very nice, which was the only redeeming factor in all this. However,they can only do so much with bad locks, and I wasted $30 on 4 crummy locks that don't work. :-(

I would recommend NOT buying these combination locks. They're a waste of money.

Convenient But InConvenient

Loved being able to use these on my grandsons luggage for an international trip and not having to spend money on new luggage that had the TSA locks attached, but I think it's an inconvenience for the TSA agent to put back on the luggage. Not only did the TSA luggage handler not put the lock back on for both flights to and from our destination, but the same thing happened to my daughter who traveled with us! I've seen too many videos of luggage handlers stealing items so having the TSA locks was a must-have for my trip. My personal luggage had the locks already attached. No problem, TSA even left the note inside my luggage. My recommendation is purchase if you feel the need, but con't expect the lock to be on your luggage when you arrive at your destination. Unfortunately, not the fault of the manufacturer, this is a TSA issue.

Both are stuck open

I was excited to find that these fit my Pelican 1560 which I fly with for work. However, both of the locks have gotten stuck in the open position.

The first one lasted for a few weeks and one successful TSA check, but the second one didn't even last one week and had to be left open by TSA because it got stuck that way. On one of them, the shackle is stuck pressed down so that I can't even try to get it into its slot. I've tried my combo and the default combo (0-0-0-0) but I can't get the pin to pop out like in the directions to set the code. The other one also had its shackle stuck in the same way, but I was able to pop the pin out. Unfortunately, it somehow got so wonky that I still can't get it into the slot.

I will absolutely be contacting the company for a refund.

4 digit locks take 10 times the time of 3 digit locks

Nice, hefty locks. 3 digits ones are easy to open and that's why I never considered them. Assuming one can try out each combination a few times in a second, it will take a fraction of 1000 seconds = 16 minutes or just a few minutes to open. 4 digit one, like this one will take 10 times that time. A little bit harder. Watch the instructions to set the combination on company's web site (a little better and clearer than reading the instruction that come with the locks). The numbers are a bit shiny making it somewhat difficult to read.

I like the feel of these locks.

I ordered these locks for a trip abroad. They worked great out of the box and it was super easy to set my own code. Do we tested them then put them on our luggage. When we arrived after a long flight, mine opened right away. My husband’s, however, did not. It appeared that the lock got jammed or something in transit. He had to take off one of the zipper pulls to get in to his suitcase. We won’t be able to use that lock going home. I hate leaving a mixed review here without contacting the seller but on my app there isn’t a choice to do that. So our success rate with the locks was only 50% and one broken zipper.

I was surprised when I received the product to see one of the padlocks open and the combination scrambled, it should have been locked and set to 0000.
It meant only one padlock was usable, this is most unsatisfactory, it will mean I now have to purchase another lock!
