In my opinion, this is the best dehydrator on the market. I have one of the largest raw food websites on the internet, and two published books on raw food recipes. I am constantly using my D10 dehydrator as I have found that nothing on the market even comes close to how well this dehydrator works. And to top it off, it is made from stainless steel, not plastic, and it is quiet! I have never had a failure with this dehydrator and find it easy to dial in the temps to dehydrate with. The addition of the mesh screens and the non-stick sheets make it perfect for everything that I dehydrate.

I have friends who have companies that produce products and the TSM is the only dehydrator they will use. It is the one that I always recommend.

I'm guessing that many people spending the extra money to get a dehydrator with stainless steel shelves are doing it for health reasons--i.e., not wanting your food in contact with hot plastic.

Well, incredibly, the manufacturers of this over-priced item have not spent the very few extra dollars necessary to isolate the wiring and other electronics from the heated air space--it is just attached to the inside of the back wall! I ran this thing outside for 36 hours, and there was still so much smell from the heated vinyl coverings on the wiring that I could not run it inside without making the kitchen smell like toxic waste.

As a small sideline of my smoked salmon business, I've been making smoked salmon jerky & Indian candy for many years, now, using a locally built dehydrator. I wanted to shift to an all stainless steel version, and, after lots of research and indecision, settled on the 10 tray TSM dehydrator. It's a gem. It's shortened the time to jerky stage by several hours and requires much less tray turning than my previous dehydrator and - a real bonus - is a snap to clean up. It's also fairly quiet - certainly much quieter than my previous dehydrator.

Now it's two years later (August 2013), and I still think it's a gem. However, it wouldn't start early this year. The seller recommended replacing all of the circuitry, but I had done a continuity check with my electrical metre (I'm Canadian - we spell this word in the French fashion). As a result, I knew that the problem was the on-off switch, which wasn't available from the seller. So I went to Amazon to find a replacement - I found the same switch (Amico red light boat rocker switch) for less than $4 (compared to the about $200 to replace the complete circuitry). When I spoke, again, to the tech at the selling company, he was surprised - but I'm not. This switch is not particularly robust (I bought two, so that the next time I won't have any down time). Still, despite this, my experience with this dehydrator would lead me to buying it again. For the price, it's a fantastic bargain.

So now it's nearly 3 years (August 2014) since I purchased this dehydrator, and I've used it a fair bit, though mostly for an intense period of salmon jerky and Indian Candy making, in October and November of each year. Otherwise, it's not much used. Still, today I replaced the on-off switch for a second time.

We decided to get the 10 tray dehydrator because we're drying large lots of fruits and vegetables -- enough for 2-3 weeks at a time.

This dehydrator worked better than expected right out of the box. Our first batch of dried fruit was wonderful. Much better than store bought. Be sure to get a thermometer to track the temperature if you don't already have one.

The stainless steel is great: We clean the shelves easily in the dishwasher, and I don't have to worry about plastic leaching chemicals on our food.

Well worth the cost.

Buyer Beware! Manufacturer sent chrome trays rather than the stainless steel trays. Did not discover until unpacking the box and dehydrator in place. Now customer service cannot help with trays only and wants me to repack the whole thing to return. This is unacceptable!

Got it today. I don't want chrome plated shelvings-don't want any more toxic (especially when heating is involved) in our diet. The box label says D10 stainless steel shelves from The Sausage Maker (TSM). This is not Amazon labeling. I am concern if TSM has been dishonest with Amazon, providing cheaper chrome plated shelves instead of stainless steel ones. I look through their web site. They have the same dehydrator with 2 option for the shelves - chrome (cheaper) and stainless steel (more expensive). I am hesitant to buy from them, not knowing what I'll get.

I bought my D-10 directly from The Sausage Maker in Buffalo New York - I opted for the chrome shelve version because of cost. I paid substantially less than the unit is listed here - The removeable back panel is a great feature when clean-up time comes - everything can go in the sink for a good scrubbing. Be advised that the latest Sausagemaker catalog shows the D-10 and D-5 with non-removeable back panels - I suppose this is a recent design change - one which I, personally would not have made.

The chromed shelves have not, so far, presented any problems but I am very careful to wash and completely dry them after use to avoid rust or pitting - I hand wash only, never put them in the dishwasher.

As to performance - This puppy is a real TIGER! A full load of jerkey dries in under 6 hours when dried on the suggested setting.

Sliced fruit and vegetables are similarly dried efficiently.

I find this unit a bit powerful for drying herbs (Open the door and get a facefull!) so that task is relegated to my older Nesco units.

One use that is very attractive is rising bread dough - We knead our bread or pizza dough, place it in a large plastic bowl with an airtight snap on lid and place it in the dehydrator with the temperature set to low ( around 100 deg F) you wouldn't believe how quickly the dough doubles in bulk! Baking that usually took all weekend is accomplished in one day and my wife really loves that.

I find that the statement "No rotation of trays necessary" is a bit of a stretch as the trays in the middle tend to dry more quickly than the bottom and top shelves. Also it is a good idea to turn the trays 180 deg after a couple hours as the back dries more quickly than the front being closer to the heating elements and fan.
