Intel is 'sliding on ice' trying to compete with the pricing of AMD Gaming - they won't let you/me upgrade anything past 18 months. (I.E. brought a Z270 2 years ago & can't put that beautiful 8700k processor on it bc the power requirements are not sufficient???????) I smell a big heap of marketing garbage with that one. But, the X299 platform has one of the best gaming processors (i7 7740X Quad Core) - with the best options for upgrades???
And guess what? The X299 platform will soon offer a 22-core processor (for the insane price of everything else in this world that has quality)
>My build: ASUS Mark 2 X299; 32 GB DDR4 Vengeance; RTX 2080 (if not stolen in mail); i7 7800X (bc gaming & workstations are X299 lovely). I'm not an enthusiast - but, the X299 platform is a beautiful start.
Specs:
Intel Core I9X 7900x

I will update this review once the bios is ready to be updated.
I need not have worried. This motherboard works perfectly with Linux and the existing video card ( Radeon HD 6870 ) I moved from my old system. The onboard sound works fine. I also just moved my 3 hard drives from the old machine and everything just booted up to Fedora 27 without the slightest hitch. Performance is exceptional and I have not even started tinkering with the overclocking.
I highly recommend this motherboard.

- Brand new everything (motherboard, DRAM, CPU Core I9-7900X, M.2 960 Pro drive, ...) except for my two Nvidia-based graphic cards.
- New install of Windows 10 Pro Creator...
1. I booted, all looked good: Browsing, no issue with any drivers.
2. Then I ran Adobe Lightroom and it is sloooooow. My first day was spent believing it was a problem with Lighroom (my photos are on a separate server/windows machine).
3. I realized it was actually the network being slow, at 1MBps on a Gigabit network !
4. Copying from another Windows machine to this machine/motherboard is SLOW.
5. Copying from this machine to another one is OK.
6. Running iperf3 showed good results.
7. Internet browsing is OK.
I bought a cheap 1Gbps NIC, plugged it onto PCIe, and voila, back to full speed. Clearly, the Ethernet port on the motherboard has some serious issues. Is it the motherboard, the driver, Windows Explorer? Very likely a combination of them that generates this issue. By the time you read this, ASUS, Intel or Microsoft may have fixed the problem. Until then, you may run into the same issue.
Other than that, all is good.
