I bought this with no reviews yet and wasn't sure if it would be any good.
First, the cons and slight possible mistakes, the blade is listed as Japan Super Steel 440A. While there is nothing wrong with the steel, 440A was created by a Chinese company. I knew this knife was manufactured in China when I bought it. Don't know why they are putting Japanese on the label other that to puff the knife. 440A is a fine utility metal for a knife. Not the best and not the hardest but, easy to clean, resists corrosion and will hold an edge for a reasonable time. Chinese manufacturers need to start branding their own steel as quality steel and stop riding on the coattails of other countries. This is a fine utility stainless steel made in China.

So, know in advance that you are not buying anything related to Japan. Maybe the original source of the metal is Japan but, I have to doubt it because the cost of the knife is too low.

I bought this knife to slice ribs and brisket for BBQ competitions. I wanted something that can hold a razor edge, not flex and was at least 10". I compared the popular go-to slicer: Victorinox 12-Inch Granton Edge Slicing Knife with Fibrox Handle at about $60. I don't like the plastic handles on the Victorinox. They just seem cheap. I wasn't going to move up to the $100 range for a knife that mostly lives in a traveling knife roll.

This knife has a great bolster, easy to grasp and pull across the meat with your thumb and index finger, cuts like a razor and has just enough flex to change your slice direction if needed.

Very nice knife. The balance is perfect and the blade takes a very sharp edge. There was some packaging issues, leading to a mar on the handle, but it is minor.

Update: 10-15-16 A crack has developed in the handle material and it is very noticeable since the handle is white. The handle has not loosened and is still functional.

Size: TC0204W 3.5" Paring knife white Verified Purchase
This paring knife is made from 440A steel. It is a softer steel compared to 440C which is the kind of steel you might want in a thick hunting knife.

440A is inexpensive for top grade steel. These blades are stamped, not forged. Yet the surface is polished, Corrosion is inhibited by the surface. 440A is better for detailed and close work because it is more elastic. If a knife made out of 440C steel were made in this design, with this 2mm blade thickness, it would be brittle and chip easily.

15 degrees is the perfect angle for this workhorse, as a 12 degree would be too fragile. 440C is a great steel but it needs to be thick compared to this kitchen blade.

I believe you would spend ten times as much for a significantly better knife.

This blade and the design of the handle allow fine control. Tomato slices are thin enough to read through. The tail of the handle is under my pinky.

A very sharp slicer. This knife makes very clean slices of any large cuts of meat. The handle is tapered which doesn't feel solid in my hand since I have never used a knife with a similar handle. I am happy with the knife, but the handle feels a bit odd.

It's a nice knife for the money but it does NOT come sharpened. Dull as a butter knife. Feels nice in the hands. There are better blades out there for the money but this combines some nice esthetics

I have several Wusthof Trident Classic Knives and I love them. One of them somehow disappeared, and I replaced it with this Santoku knife. I still use all of them, but this has become my go to knife. Great price. Great product.

If you're a home cook this paring knife works well,for a professional line cook it's a bit cumbersome,the handle it's heavy and kinda akward to work with.however it gets really sharp after 1k,3k and 7k jnat stones,if you're a professional line cook/chef get a different paring knife(nimble)
