I have been using T.V. Ears 3.0 for a year and-a-half. And even though I have some hearing loss at high frequencies and can understand about 90% of what's being spoken on T.V., they still help a lot.
Then, I have decided to upgrade to T.V. Ears 5.0 after reading about their speech clarification circuitry. When they arrived, I noticed that the ear tips were tilted 60 degrees away from the perpendicular to the arm, mounted on a base that rotated 180 degrees. Whoever designed them that way should have their head examined, because no matter how I turned them, I could not find a comfortable fit. After using them for half an hour, my ears were sore from improper fit. I have returned them the next day. and as always, Amazon took care of it promptly.
Now, I am back to using T.V. Ears 3.0. They still perform decently and they don't give me sore ears. I guess, I will continue using them, until I find a similar product that provides some adjustable enhancement at higher frequencies, and fits properly.

My hearing-impaired husband has been using TV Ears happily for several years now, and although the headsets/batteries don't last as long as we'd like, we didn't mind replacing them from time to time because the performance was good while they were still working. But then we purchased a new TV, and were forced to upgrade to digital TV Ears because the old analog system wasn't compatible.

Normally we'd have purchased these from Amazon, but we got an email from TV Ears directly with a great offer on the new 5.0 digital system so unfortunately went with that instead. While the 5.0 system was at least compatible with our new TV, the new headset design is much less comfortable than the old one AND the headset we received was defective, with sound in only one ear. After a couple of phone calls, the TV Ears folks finally agreed to exchange it for one that works (although it's still not as comfortable and the battery charge doesn't last as long), but would not cover the return postage.

So if you're hard of hearing, TV Ears may still be worth the trouble, because they do amplify the sound when they're working. Keep in mind, though, that when they say the warranty is limited they are not kidding. If you want to take a chance on them, I would recommend going through Amazon for the better return service if you can find the product you need here.

Update, a few months later: I take back what I said about TV Ears possibly being worth the trouble. That seems increasingly unlikely based on our experience, especially with the digital variety. The battery life continues to decline, and one side of the headset has come loose so that it needs to be held together with tape, after less than a year of use. There was a time when TV Ears made a reliable product that worked, and that may still be true if you can use the old analog version, but the quality has deteriorated badly since they've gone to the newer digital models. We are looking for an alternative.

Ordering was great. Delivery was great, however the product did not perform to expectations. The ears are very uncomfortable. Headache after about 30 minutes. Couldn't tell any difference in the clarity of voices. Didn't work with mute on tv. Was very disappointed so I returned them. I had other people try them and nobody liked them.

I used my 5 year limited warranted TV Ears with pleasure. I bought the best ones they offered and was able to hear the tv better than ever and found the "ears" to be comfortable. I recommended them to friends. 17 months later the headset emitted static preventing me from hearing, and the base lights went out. I called customer support, and they determined that the base was no longer working. They informed me that it would fall under the warranty, but that they no longer make that model, so the "deal" they offered me was a whopping $45 off the price of a new one. The replacement of the $150 set that I purchased just a year and a half ago, would now cost me $199. At least one review at the time I was considering purchasing TV ears said they didn't last long. I bought them anyway, but I should have listened. Anyone can sell a product. A good company can sell a good product. But the test of a reputable company is how they stand behind their product. This company does not.

This is my second set of TV ears. I had to replace the old one only because of the need for the digital ones. When I received the first digital headset, it was terribly uncomfortable as the design is greatly different than the first set that I got in 2008. I called and was sent a second replacement set which were similar in design but a little more tolerable. The sound is great, but I am still adjusting to the comfort of the headset. That's why I didn't give it 5 stars. It's just very uncomfortable in the ears. The rep said you can bend them to be bigger but the problem is that they stick way inside the ear. They sent me rubber tips, instead of the foam that comes with it, but it seems like they don't really stay on the headset. I love the product, just not happy with the redesign of the headset. If you can get used to the headset, I think you will love the product. Also, I don't think the battery lasts as long as the old one, only about 4-5 hours. The old one I had lasted longer. I never had a problem with my first set that I purchased and hope that I get used to this new set.
