It worked great at first, but after driving the car about 100 miles, the car died overnight. I assumed the battery was just fried from the previous alternator's death, so I replaced it and sent my friend on his way. The next day, the battery was dead again. ...So I went to check it out. It turns out, the alternator had a massive draw on the battery when the car was off. And as soon as we jumped it again, and drove it around, it almost immediately started boiling the battery. This sucker was putting out 17 volts at IDLE. It got all the way up to 24 volts at 3000 RPM. I feel fortunate that these little proteges have robust electronics otherwise, because this junk alternator truly could have totalled this car prematurely.
In the end, i strongly advise you not to buy this alternator. Seeing the amount of complaints for this particular car specifically citing other aftermarket alternators your best bet is either a DENSO reman or even a used OEM alternator from a junkyard if you're trying to save money.
It's been a little over a month and so far it's been charging and keeping the car running. I have not checked to see what kind of voltage or amperage it's delivering, i just replaced it and started driving the car.
I've had this alternator for 20,000 miles and two years and it's been running perfectly. This was a great product, especially considering that it was brand new and not a remanufactured unit.
Notably cheaper than the parts store replacements, which also require a core. Buy this one, and take your core to the local recycler for some cash back. Looks just like what was on there, seems a perfect match replacement.
