The only reason that I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of zipper quality. Unfortunately, after using the backpack for only one trip, I had a problem with the zipper on the upper (sunglasses + cell phone) compartment. Admittedly, I was using that zipper quite a bit in a short period of time - I took a trip and when going from the luggage check, through the security line, then using it as my carry-on, and then hauling it around the airport for layover and then the taxi ride to my hotel, I probably unzipped and zipped that compartment 50 or 60 times. It had my cell phone and sunglasses in it, so I was using the compartment as planned, and towards the end of that first long day of travel, I noticed that the zipper was starting to pull apart. This is an annoyance, but I think it's a fixable issue for Tylt, which is why I want to let them know about it. When it finally gives out, I will contact Tylt about it and see if there's anything that can be done on their end; otherwise, the backpack's design is so great that I will likely take it to a tailor and see if they can fix it or install a new zipper.
I have another thing to add to my review, just in case anybody is thinking of getting the MOS Pack backpack. I ordered both the Tylt and the Mos Pack, because I was undecided. I like the color and style of the MOS Pack much better, but it was too small for what I needed. Additionally, the MOS Pack doesn't have a battery pack; however it DOES charge all your inside devices through one plug that is easily accessible on the outside. I liked that feature a lot because when at the hotel or at the airport, I could just plug in one thing and all my devices would be charging. But since there's no battery pack built in, like the Tylt has, if you go a full day of traveling with nowhere to plug in, you're just out of luck. Also, since the Tylt battery pack does NOT charge a laptop (it only has USB ports), I needed a solution for that too.
So here's what I did: I kept the Tylt backpack, but I added a basic extension cord that had an extra outlet on it. I plugged my laptop into the extra outlet on the extension cord, and ran the laptop cable through the keepers and down into the top of the laptop compartment. I also plugged the Tylt's battery pack into the extension cord. The male part of the extension cord (the part that plugs into the wall), I ran through the 'battery recharge cable pocket' so that it's easily accessible via it's own zipper compartment. What that accomplished is that anytime I had an opportunity to plug-in for a recharge, I would just grab that easy-to-access cord and plug it in, and it would be charging my laptop AND the Tylt's battery pack at the same time. This has been the BEST solution ever; it kept all my devices fully charged throughout my travels all week, and it made life at the hotel a breeze too. Usually I'm trying to find all the outlets I can when I get to the hotel, to unpack all my device's charging cables and plug them all in... but this time I just sat my Tylt backpack in the corner and plugged in my ONE extension cord, and I knew all my devices (and the Tylt battery pack!) would be charged anytime I needed them.
TL;DR - Backpack is AWESOME, zipper quality could use some work. I really wish there were color/style options. I also wish it had a solution for charging a laptop, but my cheap and easy modification is working great.
I really love the concept of the Energi Backpack + Battery. However, before I loaded my damaged item back in the amazon box. I thought why not see if this product makes sense before I place another order. I am so glad I did.... I loaded the power supply, ran the cables, and loaded up it up with my gear (HP Elitebook 8540P, IPAD 2, Galaxy S6, extra mobile device charger 15000mAH (www.yugster.com), etc). Everything fit great... However, if you have a files, Manila folders, or even a book that can not be shoved into the front pocket you will be slightly disappointed. It was previously mentioned that you could place items in the back pocket with the laptop and battery. But further review that move would be problematic if you like me and you carry important files (term papers, handouts and presentations) that cannot be crushed or bent. Not to mention there is really no space in the back pocket except for the battery and the laptop. I really believe this is designed more for accessory storage and not a backpack persay. If you are looking for something to just carry your gear and your gear only this bag will be perfect for you. But if you need a solution for your gear and additional storage space like me the North Face Surge II Charged Backpack might be as a possible option. But the kicker it is kind of pricey... Before you pull the trigger jump over to Tylt website for additional research they actually provide more pictures of this product. I just wish they made a larger bag because it would be exactly what I am looking for...
