As a "bonus item" kit included a Solar-Powered mini-LED Flashlight on a keychain. GREAT PRODUCT! Have them with our car keys -- very suitable for looking around or locking/unlocking car or home door.
1) Included, rechargeable Li-Ion battery was partially-charged and gave bright display.
2) Placing three AAA batteries in included battery holder also worked and produced substantially brighter light.
3) Placed Li-Ion battery in included battery-charger and left there for over 8 hours; battery-charger "light" still showed "red", indicating still charging? Later check showed green (charged) light. Flashlight SUBSTANTIALLY BRIGHTER!
4) No manual or write-up instructions included. Manual now included with our latest (3rd) order.
Update #2: Liked our previous two so much we ordered a third; keep one in each car!
UPDATE: After 20 hours of charging, the Charger light turned green; apparently it is a SLOW/WEAK charger. AND BYB responded with a PDF of Manual -- to be included in mew lots being produced. Excellent product support!
Would appreciate comments from other Amazon users OR from BYBLIGHT.
Pros: Given the size of this light it puts out as much light as one might require for general purpose use. It puts out far more light than any filament type bulb. This light is well constructed of elements equal in quality and feel of the US made Maglite. The lithium battery supplied is of a good capacity. The light has some heft to it and feels substantial in the hand. Functionally speaking, I'm quite satisfied that I got my money's worth. Finally BYB's Customer Service I would rate as among the best. They truly seem to want to back their product with good customer service.
Cons: Strangely, no instructions are provided with the flashlight. Now you might be inclined to think, it's a flashlight, why would you need instructions? Well in my case, the lithium battery requires charging. The charger provided has no polarity markings on it whatsoever. Frankly, the charger also has a rather cheap feel to it as well. Not being sure which direction the battery should be inserted into the charger, I contacted the seller via email and got a very fast response. They provided me with a PDF Instruction sheet. (FYI- The positive battery end goes to the end of the charger where the LED charging indicator light is). I also found inserting the battery into the charger against the pressure of the spring loaded negative end slider to be a little less convenient than any other battery charger I have ever owned. The AAA battery holder, while I have not used it, also seems to be cheaply made. I did not like the switch. You press the tailpiece switch to turn it on to the five different modes: High, Medium, Low, Strobe, and SOS. The issue I have is you must go through multiple cycles to get to each level. If you turn it on in High Power mode then turn it off, the next time you turn it on it comes up in the Medium mode. Then the next time you turn it on, it comes on in Low mode, then next the Strobe mode, etc. It requires multiple pushes of the switch to get back to your originally desired mode. You can't turn off the flashlight, then back on to the mode you were previously in. Aggravating, to say the least.
In summary, I find the flashlight to be well constructed with decent, and the expected, but not extraordinary light output. A reasonable value at a reasonable cost. The Seller's Customer Service was very good, an often missing element by many sellers.
This represents an initial assessment of the product and is subject to updating in the future as warranted.
I realized that as long as the human element is present, some products are bound to fail. The new product that I received work very well, that little flashlight packs a punch! Infact, it is the brightest flashlight I've ever owned.
But even more impressive than the flashlight, I was amazed how fast BYB light addressed my concerns and respved the issue. That just shows that we are dealing with a company who stands behind their products and services... and that.to me..... Is an award in itself!
Thank you Susan at BYB for standing behind your products and services!
Either way, the light doesn't come on when using the rechargeable battery that was included (even after letting the battery sit in the charger for 5 hours+). I won't be leaving the battery in the charger overnight as that strikes me as a huge safety/fire hazard concern given that I have no idea what's wrong with the charger and/or battery.
Update: contacted the seller through Amazon about the charger and got a partial refund which I found acceptable. BYBLight Customer support is pretty responsive and answered my email quickly, so that's a big plus.
One thing to keep in mind is that I got this as a lightning deal. So basically I paid 5 bucks (after my refund) for a flashlight + battery + keychain light (so I found that reasonable). I will use a separately purchased charger to charge the battery.
Also there is no way the light is actually anywhere close to 800 lumens, I have the A1 Tactical which is rated at 550 and it's brighter than this one at any distance beyond about 15+ feet.
