Gabe teaches Gunfighting, not shooting. real gunfights are violent and while violence seems to offend some of the more timid readers, it is reality and anyone that is carrying a gun has a responsibility to be trained in its use. This book is a big step toward that training. Unlike many of his detractore, Gabe has actually been in gunfights and won. He knows what happens when it is time to sling lead and he knows how to win. I highly recomend this book for anyone interested in using a firearm for self defense.
I got a lot out of this book. I subscribe to the school that books on tactics should have more information on the basics of techniques and espouse the merits of repetition through "perfect practice" than promising you some ultimate "response" techniques that will never come to fruition. This is why I like Suarez's books. He adroitly knows how to give a thorough definition of the techniques with some reasonable example of why they work. There is no "high speed low drag" with his text, though to be honest, I don't even know what that statement means but I get nauseated every time I hear it.
The chapters are broken down into small, right-to-the-point paragraphs and are presented in a logical order: Intro, Safety, Ammo, Carry methods, etc. There are plenty of B&W photos and my only criticism is that I would have preferred more sequential photos showing the techniques in more detail than what is presented. Gabe's Tactical Pistol book does a better job of doing that, especially on the draw or carry techniques.Read more ›
Say what you will about Mr Suarez as a person, he definitely has the technical knowledge and real-world experience to teach about firearms.
The focus on the first part of the book in chapters 1-7, centers on the actual shotgun. Some brief information on various ammunition is followed up with patterning tests so the shooter knows exactly how his individual shotgun will perform at varying distances. Stopping power is then discussed, and followed up with some very useful information on different types of shotguns and useful accessories. This section concludes with an introduction to combat mindset, and programming physical and mental responses. These last topics are not routinely found in other shotgun books, and I felt they were valuable additions.
In chapters 8-14, the book moves into the actual running of the shotgun. Some excellent information and photos of various ready positions are offered. Positions such as American carry, African carry, and Rhodesian Ready are just some of the various positions covered. It was nice to see information on effectively using a sling with a shotgun. Sight pictures, and a good deal of information on various manipulations are the heart of this section. Aspects like loading, malfunction drills, reactive shooting, switch to slug drills, and supported shooting are very clearly explained and illustrated.
The final third of the book in chapters 15-22, is where this book really starts to stand out. Intermediate and Advanced topics are covered here. Multiple adversaries, low light shooting, close combat, shooting and moving were all covered in a no nonsense approach.Read more ›

This book seems pretty outdated and at best a 30 minute read. Nothing against it, but you could pick most of this up in a few youtube videos.Published 5 months ago by Soren G. Brockdorf
Gabriel Suarez writes from the perspective of a police officer facing hostile, armed criminals. He is straightforward about the strengths and limitations of the combat shotgun. Read morePublished 8 months ago by Keith J. Champney Jr.

It's very dry to read. Every capital is a fight. Guess that's the way how it should be. I guess for a beginner is it not the right lecture.Published 16 months ago by Mweber
