I just discovered Todd Borg in early June. After reading the latest Owen McKenna mystery, I cannot wait for the next one. After 11 adventures with Owen, Street, and Spot, I am hooked. If you love mystery/adventure/detective type stories, I advise you to buy Todd Borg. After reading all 11, I can't wait to go back to Tahoe and experience the locations around the lake. Another great read from Todd.

I am a reader of mystery series and like to gain a familiarity with the characters as I read. I have been a fan of John Corey and Mitch Rapp for many years. When a friend asked me if I knew Owen McKenna I responded that I did not; but I have resolved that situation. Eleven books later, Owen has become a friend and I have learned how he thinks and behaves. He continues to evolve and his acquaintances continue to expand the story. If you seek a familiar hero, then Owen is for you.

Owen doesn't work alone and the cadre of characters that participate in his adventures become familiar as they are not 'one and done' in this series. You will learn about Street's past and how she brings a sensitivity that Owen may not have. You will find Diamond an interesting cross between self-deprecation and responsible public servant. You will watch Jennifer grow up and provide Owen assistance that is beyond his means. However old Ellie is, she continues to make reappearances and help bring familiarity to Owen canine training requirements. And Spot, while perhaps slightly over personified, usually lopes (or licks) to the rescue however and whenever needed. Through these familiar characters the series grows and makes the next book even more anticipated.

For those readers that are familiar with the Lake Tahoe area the series provides a familiarity of a different nature. Each visit to this beautiful area also brings a face to the story that has been read. Todd Borg is a master of description and detail, something that makes the reading more enjoyable. I see things differently after reading about where Owen travels.

Some mystery series are predictable. Sometimes you read and while the story path wanders and meanders, the paved highway towards resolution is clearly marked.

Well this was definitely not the book for me. I really thought this was going to be an interesting thriller. It was far from it. First let me preface by saying that while this book was not for me, it very well may be one for you. That being said, I'll tell you why I didn't like it. First, the descriptives were way overdone and way too frequent. I think I have learned more about skiing and Lake Tahoe then I care to know. Second, the transition from the plot to sub-plot was so drastic that I wasn't sure which was which anymore. For most of the book, you felt like the story was about a greedy corporation's desire to obtain property for the best resort Tahoe has ever seen. Then by the end you're caught up in a brother's revenge story. And lastly, the story as a whole just dragged on. For me, this made this a very long & boring read.

On a positive note, the author showed great resolve and tenderness in his descriptions of abuse used throughout the book. And his knowledge of the Tahoe area is real pronounced throughout the book. Unfortunately that's all I found to be a positive for the book.

I think anyone that has a background in skiing may like this book. But I definitely would call it a thriller and I won't be recommending it to anyone.

This is my first experience with this author and I am so very glad I found him! His story is absolutely fantastic.

Mr. Borg has given us a good, clean cut, spine tingling, mystery that will keep you on the edge of your chair during the entire book. The story is very well written and paced perfectly. As you read, there is never any question as to what is going on and why. Mr. Borg has given us a great murder mystery, a slight touch of romance, an abused woman fighting to gain courage in her life, and a spunky senior fighting to find out who almost killed his wife. Mr. Borg, now that I write this, I applaud you. You have multiple story lines going here and have written them without any confusion to the reader.

The characters are so well written and lifelike that you feel you are right into the melee. And, lest I forget, Detective McKenna's faithful dog Spot. By the time you finish this story you know these people, what they thought and went through. Just an awesome story!

I recommend this story for all ages.

I know you will enjoy your book.

Detective Owen McKenna Is not only a believable character, but also very likable. All the character in this book are well done and described extremely well. The scenes are well done. I for one have never been to Lake Tahoe but after reading this book I feel like I have been there. The author does a wonderful job that interweaves the plot throughout the story till you reach the ending. This is one of the few times I have read a mystery and not known who the murderer was by at least half way through. I was completely caught by surprise when it was finally revealed. I for one will definitely be picking up the authors other Owen McKenna books soon. and I will be recommending them to my friends who love mysteries as well.
