This bill be a strange review, so bare with me please. I'm a 'child of the 60s', and bought most of the comics in this compilation new when I was a kid. Comics were in their nascent stage, and not even half the medium they are today. Also? There was a certain innocence to the medium that is sorely lacking today. In some ways, I was hoping to regain some of this simplicity by reading these comics again. Guess what? You can't go home again. The other part of this? Whoever slapped this book together, did so without even bothering to explain why in an introduction. The stories are goofy, and none if it stands the test of time. To add insult to injury? The book came in an Amazon package bent and destroyed. Not only won't I read it, but it won't look good on a bookshelf. I've read several compilation books from Marvel, at least they take the time to make it look pretty and talk about what they are doing. This was a big letdown, even though Super Monkey is in it several times......sigh......

When my niece was getting interested in comic books, I told her about my favourite characters and she told her friends. They did not believe they existed.
"There was a super dog, a super cat, a super monkey, and a super horse? And they fought aliens as the Legion of Super-Pets?"
"I googled them."
One of them asked her to ask me why there were so many strange superheroes when I was a boy.
"It was the sixties. We were all on drugs."
This volume collects some of the stories of Ace the Bat Hound, Krypto the Super Dog, Streaky the Super Cat, Beppo the Super Monkey, and Wonder Woman's kangaroos. Some of my favourites are not in it. There are no stories of Detective Chimp or Green Lantern's dog. Yes. In the Golden Age, the original Green Lantern had a dog. Supergirl dated Super Monkey. Supergirl and Lois Lane dated Supergirl's horse but not at the same time. That would have been weird. Perhaps there will be a second volume. I would have preferred the stories to be in chronological order but this is a very good book for a girl who is just getting into comic books.

The origin stories of some of the world's most powerful beings' pets.

Disappointingly, this was too cheesy by half. The shockingly poor depictions of Supergirl and Wonder Woman are (I suppose) partly a product of their time but there was nothing aspirational in their characters. The artwork and colouring are good for their time, but the plots are either overwrought or played (badly) for laughs.

Annoyingly, the tales of Comet, the super horse, are presented out of order.
