It's pretty much the old story, she loves him & can't tell him...he loves her and can't tell her. Then you throw good old Uncle Theo in to mix it up a little & you pretty well have the jest of the tale & the reader can predict much that will happen.
I liked this story but the previous book, "Along the Way Home" was much more appealing. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the old west & desires a "squeaky clean" read.
I wish it would have continued even more, showing the hardships and joys of increasing their home, land, crops and horses. Also about their child or children.
Furthering more about Clare and the doctor, etc. I'm so glad Theo got what he deserved, I say he should have gotten even more for his dishonest practices and attempting to kill not only Jake but also Kate.
However I'm very excited about this book and hope others will read it and find it as enjoyable as I have. Very well written!
It is beautifully written and I really felt immersed in the storyline and Jake and Kate's struggle to create new lives at the end of the Oregon Trail. I loved that there was enough action and deception to keep it interesting, but not at the cost of the heart and hope of the story. Kate is a willful and inspiring heroine, she offers an interesting glimpse into what it must have been like to be a woman in the unsettled west. Once again, Christi Corbett expertly blends history and heart!
This is a very satisfying sequel to Along the Way Home and I am so happy I could follow along on their journey. I highly recommend this book!
P.S. If you have not read Along The Way Home yet, you really need to!!

Easy read but very entertaining!
Worth the effort even though predictable in places.
