Product Description

The EF381SC 12-string dreadnought is handcrafted in our pro series facility that has been building precision quality instruments over five decades. The versatility of this guitar begins with its solid cedar top that can play sweet mellow passages or power chords with equal ability. The maple back and sides are a perfect reflector for the tone generated by the soundboard, while the gloss black finish looks great under the stage lights. The mahogany neck is joined to the body with a traditional, ultra strong dovetail joint. Includes Takamine's Palathetic pickup, known in the industry as one of the most accurate and natural sounding acoustic/electric pickups. The CT4B preamp has long been the popular choice among Takamine pro artists, providing warm natural acoustic tone at high sound pressure levels.

I bought this model new years ago, and I am pleased about how well it was made. For a 12-string, it is also easier on the fretting hand to play than most. Its sound is absolutely terrific when it is plugged in to something w/good speakers and the sweet on-board EQ is set appropriately. My only real complaint about this guitar is that the sound is pretty thin (quiet overall and very weak lows) when played acoustically - not a huge issue for me in this case since I usually play it plugged in. It is not really made for studio recording or even a truly unplugged performance. If you are shopping for a rocking 12-string to play on stage, this may be the one for you.

After I had the action set by a professional, this guitar became my personal favorite! It is so easy to play and sounds just wonderful. I have Elixer nano strings on mine and change them every 6 months or so to keep the personality of this guitar coming through. It seems much more responsive than my other guitars to a wide range of playing styles, from very soft and caressing, to very hard and aggressive. It is more susceptible to the environment than my other guitars, so when I'm going to play with others (mainly in a band at church) I take it there early and let it acclimate and then tune it up. Once I do that, it keeps its tune very nicely and sings. The lows are warm and resonant, and the highs are just bright enough to let the sound of the 12-string come through. The finish is really nice. The pre-amp is good enough to not get in the way, but not as good as with my other guitars. It's good enough though. For the price, there are many alternatives out there - including brands that give you more "bragging rights", but this guitar more than any others has me wanting to pick it up and feel the smooth fretting and hear more of that silky 12-string sound. I real winner.
