In this novel, readers will "meet" Grant and Harlow. Now, if you are familiar with the series (and are one of the few who haven't read it), then you should know that we briefly meet them in the previous books in the series. Grant is your typical male who refuses to settle down. Well, until he meets Harlow. Now this isn't necessarily because he's a womanizer. I think it's more because he's terrified of falling in love and losing the one he loves. In the previous books he actually comes off as one of the good guys (although truth be told, I didn't really feel these vibes within this book which was just sad). So reading his story was a lot of fun.
Harlow is the sweet and lovable sister of Nan (who is the WORST female heroine in the world). Everyone hates Nan. She is evil and devious and plain old rotten. To. The. Core. To make it worse? She's in this book quite a bit. Blech! But, it's not her story. It's Harlows. And she's keeping a major secret from Grant... Which sends their new romance into a tailspin...
Overall, I enjoyed this book and I love visiting with new characters from Rosemary Beach. And, while this one may not be my favorite one I can assure you that I will continue reading because I own the series AND because Abbi Glines is a great author.
What started off as an addictive, highly enjoyable series, has become monotonous and predictable. I can't get over how every character looks and acts the same, and how each story line is pretty much a carbon copy of the last.
In Take and Chance, we have another slutty hero and inexperienced heroine. Did anyone else think that Harlow was pretty much a Blaire clone? No? Just me? Anyway, this was ultimately Grant's book. This was about his growth as a character. He evolved during this story from a somewhat needy, emotionally handicapped man-child to a stronger, confident man. But his strength is tested at the very end of this book, and we won't find out how he handles it until the next book. Once again, another Abbi Glines book ends in a cliffhanger :/
I loved catching up with Rush and Blaire, and Woods and Della. I liked getting some insight into Kiro's past, but overall this one left me feeling...meh. I did like the continued building of Bethy and Tripp's story; I'm looking forward to their book.
I'm assuming that if you're looking into purchasing this book, then you're familiar with the series. I wouldn't recommend you read this unless you've read the other entries. If you have read the other two couples' books, and are contemplating this one then I'd wait until One More Chance is released and you can read them together. That's what I should've done.
P.S. I'm still hopeful that ONE of these books will have a person of color or some other minority in them. At least this one had a ginger! Yay! Here's to hoping...
