I bought this book a few months ago but didn't write a review until now. Dr Solie's advice was so straightforward that at first I had set it aside as consisting of mostly common sense rather than new insights.
One night after a bad week at work, I picked up the book again, accepted the challenge and started to follow the journaling process that she recommends. In truth I have found it to be helpful. Somehow having detailed instructions makes the process of facing my own emotions more manageable and less confusing.
The hardest step for me is identifying my emotions. The lengthy list at the back of the book is extremely useful. I look over the list, take a guess at what seems to resonate with what I'm feeling, and often that helps me find a word for it.
I appreciate the well-laid-out structure, which is clear enough to remember and use even when I'm stressed out. I have continued to do the journaling and I feel grateful for this book.
