My son was suspended from his school, 3 times in 2 weeks. (He's only in first grade)They were one day suspensions, but regardless, he was suspended for anger behavior issues. And as a parent it kills you inside to think that your child could be so bad. I sat him on my lap at my computer and we researched it together. We picked out these books together and strange as it may seem, soon after his behavior started to change, it was like he was someone elses child...lol. The lessons we went through were amazing as far as learning together what he should do and as a parent how to approch situations. For example, my son flew off the handle when someone would smirk at him or laugh at him. Make fun of
his behavior. IN the book it gives a situation, what if you were walking down the hall and a kid bumped into you knocking your books to the floor, what would you do. My son said I would scream at him to "watch out man or next time you'll get it!" IN the book it tells you it was a handicapped person in a wheel chair that bumped into the student, before
hand. So that you can set up the question correctly. I asked my son what if it was Dennis? (A Kid in his school who is in a wheel chair), He said then I would not have screamed at him. And we both learned as the book teaches, you can control your anger, YOU decide if you want to be mad, no one else, can make you mad. You choose to be mad or not. He is my first born of 2, I don't have all the answers, I learn as I go, but I know I love him enough to try anything. And my son is amzingly different now. Thanks to these books. Thank you, "Getting the GRRR out of Anger", We have learned alot as a family.

I have an Anger Management Group for Kids 8-12 years old and this is one of two books I use. Taking the GRR out of anger is one of the best anger Books for kids I have used in group. Gives straight forward steps in management of anger. Kids can read and understand themselves. Book includes the major points of anger management. I highly recommend this book.

My 9 and 12 year old sons love this book! We have been able to talk about those angery moments in a fun and useful way. The funny pictures just add to the easy-going approch to a serious topic.

As I went through this book, I felt that the information given required a fairly high level of self-awareness and reading skill to benefit from it. An excellent resource for a parent or teacher, I feel the younger child (10 years and younger) would retain information most from having an adult read portions to them. It would be helpful if it related to the immediate problem the child is having, or is interested in. The book doesn't seem to lend itself to a read from cover to cover, but would be better read and/or discussed in segments, even for the older child. I really like the content, but was looking for a book for younger children.

I preread this book before sharing it with my 8 year old granddaughter. Much of it was useful but it seems the age range was too broad as I felt the things mentioned were inappropriate for a child this young. It would have been better if the book stuck with an 8-12 range and then a teenage version. As it is, the cover seems to be for younger children while the mention of drugs and school work is for older. I wasn't comfortable letting her read it herself, which was too bad.

Wonderful explanations of what anger is, how to recognize the feelings, how to express the feeling in a healthier way and how to problem solve. My daughter loved the examples of dialogue as they were accurate samples of what she deals with on a daily basis with her peers at school. I appreciated the fact that we could pick it up and read any chapter without reading the entire book. My daughter has also benefited by reading a book called Angry Octopus: A Relaxation Story. She feels empowered by both of these books and is now implementing taking a deep breath to calm her anger just as the octopus does in Angry Octopus. It is a winning combination.

I bought this book for my six year old grandson who used the "grrr" sound when becoming angry. Both he and his eight year old brother love the book. There are some helpful insights in the book to help them learn to control their anger. I recommend the book to any parent or grandparent who needs written material to help a child address the problem of anger.
