Can you read this book as stand alone or the series out of order? Yes, though you will, no doubt, want to read the others. Your curiosity will demand it. I am reading it out of order and even though I know some of who is with who, I am still breathless while I read. Each story captivates me. I learn more about each character, their romance and how the group functions with each book. I recommend the book, (and the series), to lovers of contemporary romance.
I really do love a happy ending and I loved seeing Ted and Sophia get back together and finally be happy, but poor Eve, I hope she finds her forever love soon. I'll keep reading!!!!
The story begins with Sophia DeBussi (1/2 of the richest couple in Willow Creek) discovering that not only did her husband, Skip, die attempting to leave his old life behind but that he left because he swindled money from most of their small town's residents. *Good riddance, what a jerk* She gets questioned by the FBI, her In-Law's, and the townsfolk that he took for millions of dollars. Losing almost everthing she owns, Sophia must get a job from one of the few people in town that DIDN'T give Skip any money, Ted, the man she dumped when they were teenagers to marry Skip. *poor Ted is in denial about still loving Sophia* Ted reluctantly (and against his friends' warnings) hires Sophia as his housekeeper. Sophia becomes the town pariah *I felt so bad for her and her 13 year old daughter Alexa, I wanted to deck half the town!*. We soon learn the struggles that Sophia went through at the hand of her abusive husband and that everyone has misread her. As the story progresses, Ted attempts to prove to himself that he can move on from Sophia. Meanwhile Sophia tells herself that although she still loves Ted, she has nothing to offer him because her life is a wreck. *Every time Ted learned something new about Sophia's marriage, I saw the ice around his heart melt a little more. Even with all the angst that the town created for Sophia, this book was a very sweet read. The characters felt very ... real, I can totally see this happening in such a small town!!!*
POV ... 3rd person
stand alone or series... part of a series but can be read as a stand alone
would I recommend it ... yes
did it give me a book hangover... slight
would I read it again ... yes
I kept putting this book off because I thought I would not like Sophia's character. There were parts of it I did not admire, but so many more parts I liked. I was not that happy with Ted's character either. I was surprised how much I enjoyed their story. How mad I got at other characters in the book. Especially the Sheriff.
The plot was good. It kept me reading so much that I did not put the book down until I had finished it.
I was very invested into their story. I wanted things to workout for everybody. The pacing was good.
Lots of drama all over the place. I was so disappointed in so many characters with authority in the book. Lots of different relationships problems to overcome.
Their were some love scenes that I skipped over.
I liked seeing the old characters from previous books show up again.
So if you have waited like me to read Take Me Home for Christmas don't wait any longer it is a good story.
I was given this ebook so I could honestly review it from Netgalley and Harlequin.
