I really liked Kate and David. David, his loyalty and dedication to his family and his obvious love for them was beautiful. Then there is Kate who is so focused one making her father proud of her and what she can accomplish. However, her father Albert was just a nasty piece of work, who unfortunately reflect so many fathers today, and you just wanted to smack him really hard.
I will be happy to read more from Charmaine Ross and wish her every success.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review and am more than happy to provide one!
I blew through this book faster than I thought I would. Like other romances, the man focus was on the love between the hero and heroine, but this story also focused heavily on the changes Kate decided to make and how she took control of her own life.
From the beginning, Kate was very conflicted. She had earned a certain reputation (being dubbed "Queen Kate"), but she struggled with this. I got the impression that she was sort of a "damsel in distress" locked in the top of her family's ivory tower waiting to be set free.
Enter David, the lowly landscaper who does everything passionately...and I mean EVERYTHING (wink wink). He and Kate battle it out for the redemption of her self and self-worth, and David's actions, especially towards the end, were very endearing. Anyone who has struggled within themselves would want a person like David on their side.
All in all, this was a great story with a unique perspective, and a very clear message: Be true to yourself!

No matter how high you put up walls, how perfect you conceal your true identity, there will always be someone who can see straight through the fabrication. Ross provides her readers with more than meets the eye. Her sole purpose for writing this novel is portrayed in the character development, style of writing and detail that she gives to moral behavior. It doesn't matter what gender you are or what social class you belong to, the outcome is the same...everyone deserves to be loved for who they are.
Kate and David are the most unlikely pair. Kate...or Queen Kate...is in an elite social class, supported by her father Alfred Moore. Her life has been rather uneventful, except for her sister disappearing three years ago. Moore is one of the most prestigious names in the hotel business and her new little side project was started to share in the success. Her intentions are crystal clear, she wants to be every bit as worthy in her father's eyes...but then comes David, the new landscaper for her hotel. David completely sweeps her off of her feet, making her think about rights and wrongs...as well as how manipulative her father can be and always has been. Maybe there was a really good reason that her sister disappeared, but Kate is determined to find out and...David...David shouldn't even be on her mind all hours of the day. What would her father think if he knew she was falling in love with a landscaper? What would that do to the Moore name and would she be able to live through the shame?
Ross has a wonderful, fast-paced story with well thought out characters and originality. This story does have a bunch of grammatical and spelling issues, but it is still entertaining and light-hearted. If you are a reader of Romance and Women's Fiction, you may be interested in checking this book out.
A free copy of this fictional piece was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Kate is a hard worker and wants to proof her father that she is able to take over his business, and because of that, she agrees to restore the old Burham Beeches Hotel without his help. To do so, she needs to hire a landscaper and that is when David appears on the scene. He is very talented and Kate falls in love with the garden designs she had seen on his web page. Apart from being so talented in landscaping, he is a good person, honest and caring, and soon he realizes that Kate needs help but not only with the gardening but with her feelings as well.
A very emotional story. It is well-written and easy to read. From the very first page you get in the story and never want to get out. You feel in love with both Kate and David, and you feel the need to help them.
