Horowitz is prescient as well as brilliant

Excellent book and brilliant author. Horowitz shows prescience, writing in 2014 of the radical leaders that would define the left today. Having once been a foot soldier of the left he knows all the tricks they use - labelling their enemies racist, or a certain strain of WWII Germans, etc, in order to shut down any dialogue, every time they are exposed. The advantage with the conservatives is that most of the foot soldiers on the radical left today are not very smart but simply regurgitate what they have been taught in radical methods by more dangerous elitists. But he emphasizes why its important for conservatives to speak in the people's language, even more so in the current age of Twitter and sound bites and low attention spans. Good tips on framing political arguments going forward.

A must read for all conservatives

I have been a big David Horowitz fan from the days of "Destructive Generation." As with most of his books, every Republican from presidential candidates down (or up) to precinct committeeman and committeewoman should read this book. As Horowitz makes clear, we are not facing JFK's political party anymore. Republicans and Democrats used to see eye to eye on many issues. Today, however, socialists have taken control of the Democratic Party (for more on this, search for "Chapter 19: Defeating the Socialist Coalition and Restoring Our Constitutional Republic" on Amazon) and we are now facing not just a mere political party, but a movement that will not stop until it has completely eviscerated the U.S. Constitution.

Horowitz outlines how we can fight back against that movement. And fight we must, no more of this nonsense where Mitt Romney says that Barack Obama is a "good person." Obama and other Democrats are not good people and we need to make the voters understand that.

While attacking the Democrats, Horowitz also suggests a unifying idea for conservatives. I won't give away that idea here, but I agree that it is one that can unify conservatives and libertarians. Unless we unite, there is little chance that we can defeat the socialists/progressives.

This book is about using, in a moral and honest way, Democrat methods to win elections and politics. Elections are about emotions, and Democrats play them to the hilt with any lie or spin that harms opposition. You've seen their BS ads. I don't need to go on here.

This book talks about those tactics and lays plan how the spin and lies are used to harm Repulicans. I understand a copy was sent to all the congressional Republicans, and one or two think they might "try" to follow this sage advice. But this is why Republicans don't sell their message. They don't get that the politics of winning elections and governing are different. If you read this book, you will nod your head and get really PO'd that Republicans keep following their failed political approach.

This is a very interesting book from one of the leading US conservative commentators.

Horowitz outlines a strategy for countering the tactics used by leftists and progressives against conservatives. Leftists, says Horowitz, have mastered the media game while conservatives have not. Leftists argue in slogans that are effective and easily understood; conservatives argue ideas and policy options which aren't easily grasped in sound bites. Leftists demonize conservatives with accusations of racism, sexism and the like; this either shuts down debate or forces conservatives to spend time defending themselves against baseless allegations rather than advancing their arguments and positions. Leftists accuse conservatives of waging a "War on Women", a "War Against the Poor" etc.; these accusations are very effective in defining or shutting down debate and conservatives do nothing to effectively counter such sloganeering.
Leftists, says Horowitz, have mastered the media; conservatives have not, leaving the left controlling the media and media reporting.

Horowitz proposes some simple, yet effective, strategies which conservatives must adopt to get their message across.

Conservatives must use the left's failures against them. As a few examples, Democrats have controlled failing US cities like Detroit for decades; constantly throw their failures back at them, says Horowitz. Democrats have controlled failing public education systems in many US cities for decades; use these obvious failures against them, says Horowitz.

Leftists have mastered the media game, says Horowitz; conservatives have not. Conservatives need to effectively master the media game, and, says Horowitz, it's not too difficult. Conservatives also need to be in the entertainment industry to counter the constant stream of leftist propaganda that passes as entertainment.

Progressives, says Horowitz, control public education and universities and use them to spread their message; conservatives need to counter this.

Horowitz offers simple, effective measures conservatives must take to effectively advance their arguments, policies and political positions. This book is aimed at US conservatives but the message is applicable to conservatives in all western countries.

Overall, a very interesting book with a message that western conservatives should heed.

Perhaps my hopes were too high. There is definitely a need for a workable battle pal for defeating the left, but I doubt this is it. Quite a bit of history, but we already know the past, it's the future for which we need a Battle Plan. I found the book uninspiring and doubt that much of it would rally the conservative troops. I respect David Horowitz but I can't see too many people being inspired by his message.
