About the Author
Author's Biography Reverend Jimmie Perry was born November 15, 1942 in Orlando, Florida. He was raised by his mother, Inez Perry and his grandfather, James Arthur Perry, who was the central character in TO TAKE A RIGHTEOUS STAND. He attended Orange County Public Schools, graduating from Jones High School in June 1961. Rev. Jimmie was active in the community while in high school, joining the Youth Council and N.A.A.C.P., and being part of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. He worked his way to the supervisory level of employment at Walt Disney World’s Dolphin Hotel. But he was called to the ministry, first becoming an Ordained Deacon and Minister at Pine Hills Community Church in Orlando. Maybe because of the early influence of James Arthur Perry on his grandson to record the family’s history, Rev. Jimmie Perry began to collect the family genealogy in 1974, beginning with his African ancestral matriarch, Catherine Perry. His first attempt to categorize the Perry family history was in preparation for the Program Booklet for the 1985 Perry Family Reunion. Everyone was excited about this, and made Rev. Jimmie the unofficial “family historian.” The 1991 Perry Family Reunion featured a near complete list of all the members of the Perry family, from African roots to the present, including relatives who had served in the military in all the major wars involving the United States of America. There were Perrys in education, law enforcement, management, farming and other prestigious and important areas of employment. James Arthur Perry never went to school beyond 3rd grade, but he was the driving force behind Rev. Jimmie Perry and all the members of the family rising to the challenge of going higher than he did. Rev. Jimmie Perry was compelled to write this book, claiming he couldn’t bear to die and face both God and James Arthur Perry with lame excuses for why he didn’t write his grandfather’s nationally known story. His proudest accomplishment is the completion of the historical fiction novel, TO TAKE A RIGHTEOUS STAND. Reverend Jimmie Perry is retired, but still very active in church. He resides in Orlando, Florida, where many relatives surround him with love and respect. His home remains the focus of the Annual Perry Family Reunions.
