This makes for great summer reading! I love Truman, the cowboy hero of the story. The way he moves and walks and talks. He is super sexy. The chemistry between the couple is thick as June bugs in summer. ;) Her crazy experiences and modern vision make for clever writing. Her 2011 voice and thoughts are a fun contrast to the Wild West.

This is a super fun, super hot book! I highly recommend.

Jessica never knew what hit her when she was suddenly tossed back to 1881 Dodge City Kansas. Suddenly, she is being tossed in jail for a crime she didn't commit and there is something about that sexy Sheriff, Truman, that makes her not mind the bars quite so much.

I really liked the plot of this book, not saying that it isn't clichéd at times and often predictable, but I liked how it moved so quickly and not a moment of the plot was boring. If this was a movie it would be moving so fast you would miss something if you took a potty break. Now as much as I liked that, this writing style really made the characters suffer. Neither Jessica or Truman are very deep and other than their physical attraction I don't honestly know why they love each other. Don't get me wrong, they are both very likable characters but there is just no depth to them. Even when Truman is trying to tow that standard romance line of not wanting love, only wanting sex, it only lasts for about 4 sentences. Towards the end when they are inevitably separated, a scene that should have been moving, dramatic and heart wrenching, but instead the author leaves the the scene out all together. Even at the very end when the inevitable bun shows up in the over, Truman doesn't even seem to care, he just acknowledges that he is going to be a father one of these days and that's that.

If you are looking for a lighter book this is for you, but as much as I liked Truman and Jessica I want more than congeniality in my characters. But because of the enjoyable plot, likable, if thin, characters and the humor I give this:

3 stars.

After reading Ms. Maclean's "Captured by the Highlander" book, I was eager for more of her storytelling and purchased "Taken by the Cowboy." I hate to write bad reviews, but was very disappointed that this book didn't measure up to the previous one mentioned. Writing style was awkward and love scenes seemed forced and dispassionate. The main male character seemed too much like a John Wayne caricature rather than a "real" person. Several times I considered just closing the book and quitting. The ending of the story was the saving grace with a neat little twist at the end, making up for some of the disappointment. I have a hard time understanding why this book was rated so high and even with the low price, I honestly would consider this book not worth the money. If you haven't read Captured by the Highlander, buy that one instead. It was an enjoyable, well-written romance.

This book drew me in from the first page! I haven't read a lot of time travel romance books but now I'm thinking maybe I should put more on my list! First we meet Jessica Deaney. She is a modern day woman who is in the middle of dealing with her own grief and loss when she is in a car accident and the impossible happens....she is catapulted back in time. She finds herself in the wild west. 1800's style!!
This is where her adventure begins. She meets sheriff Wade Truman under circumstances that are less then ideal. It seems she has taken on the name Junebug Jess and within hours of her arriving, she has the reputation of a rough and rowdy gunslinger. Truman is one smokin HOT lawman! ' He has a certain cowboy charm that would make any modern day woman swoon. He seem to be dangerous, mysterious and ohh soo sensual!
Truman and Jess both feel a connection to each other. And before you know it, they set the pages ablaze with their unstoppable passion. *winks*
This was truly a fun and entertaining read for me. I absolutely love Truman and Jessica. I loved watching their attraction and trust grow throughout the book. Jessica is a bit unusual in Truman's eyes. And he knows that she is keeping something from him. But he feels a fierce protectiveness towards her and finds himself doing everything he can to keep her out of harms way. Truman is hard around the edges and Jessica knows he doesn't want to get too close. But she can see the soft, caring and loving side of him and she can't seem to put out the fire that burns for him.
If you like time travel themed books, then this is a great book to pick up!! It's a branding hot read with an incredibly scorching hot Hero ;) It's fun and entertaining and it will keep you flipping the pages until there are no more left!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book!!

Jessica Delaney has had a rough year. First there was the devastating death of her only brother, then her relationship with her fiancé fell apart. One night while driving during an intense rainstorm she loses control of her car and crashes. When she wakes up, she's no longer driving along a 21st century highway in Kansas, she's on a dirt road just outside of Dodge City. That's Dodge City, Kansas, circa 1880.

Sheriff Truman Wade prides himself on keeping the law-abiding citizens of Dodge City safe, and is puzzled by the odd behavior of the town's newest addition. Something is just not right about Jessica and he's determined to figure out what the beautiful young woman is hiding...with predictable results.

First let me sum up my experience with time travel romance: I've read "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. Keeping that in mind, I have to say I wasn't all that impressed by this story. The fun of reading a time travel is seeing how the character reacts to their unfamiliar surroundings. In this case Jessica settles right in. She makes an instant friend, immediately snatches up the most eligible bachelor in town and is able to blend right into 19th century life. Sure, she wishes she had her cell phone and she occasionally misses pizza, but other than that being dumped 100+ years into the past wasn't much of an inconvenience.

The characters are pleasant enough, but the story is so rushed that there's not a whole lot of time for them to develop. I generally like a fast-paced storyline, but this felt like the starting gun was fired and we're racing to the finish line. I really felt no connection to the characters and I wasn't invested in their romance.

Having said that, this wasn't all that bad.
