“The Shadow Falls series belongs to my favorite YA series. It has everything I wish for in a YA paranormal series. A thrilling tale that moves with a great pace, where layers of secrets are revealed in a way that we are never bored. It continues a gripping story about self-discoveries, finding a place in the world, friendship, and love. So if you didn't start this series yet, I can only encourage you to do so.” ―Bewitched Bookworms on the Shadow Falls series
“TAKEN AT DUSK starts off with action and never loses momentum. C.C. Hunter takes readers on a supernatural thrill ride, full of suspense, drama, laughter and intense emotions from page one all the way through the last page, ending in one of the biggest cliffhangers I've read.” ―Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews
“Ms. Hunter handles this series with such deftness, crafting a wonderful tale that speaks to the adolescent in me. I highly recommend this series filled with darkness and light, hope and danger, friendship and romance.” ―Night Owl Reviews (Top Pick) on the Shadow Falls series
“Taken At Dusk has even more drama and answers for Kylie. Jam-packed with action and romance from the very beginning, Hunter's lifelike characters and paranormal creatures populate a plot that will keep you guessing till the very end. A perfect mesh of mystery, thriller, and romance. Vampires, weres and fae, oh my!” ―Romantic Times
“The evolving, not-always-easy relationships among Kylie and her cabin mates Della and Miranda are rendered as engagingly as Kylie's angst over dangerous Lucas and appealing Derek. Just enough plot threads are tied up to make a satisfying stand-alone tale while whetting appetites for sequels to come” ―Publishers Weekly on Born at Midnight
“Born at Midnight is addicting. Kylie's journey of self-discovery and friendship is so full of honesty, it's impossible not to fall in love with her and Shadow Falls..and with two sexy males vying for her attention, the romance is scorching. Born at Midnight has me begging for more, and I love, love, love it!” ―Verb Vixen on Born at Midnight
“There are so many books in the young adult paranormal genre these days that it's hard to choose a good one. I was so very glad to discover Born at Midnight. If you like P.C. and Kristin Cast or Alyson Noel, I am sure you will enjoy Born at Midnight!” ―Night Owl Reviews on Born at Midnight

About the Author
C.C. Hunter is the author of the young adult fantasy series Shadow Falls, including the books Born at Midnight and Awake at Dawn. She grew up in Alabama, where she caught lightning bugs, ran barefoot, and regularly rescued potential princes, in the form of Alabama bullfrogs, from her brothers. Today, she's still fascinated with lightning bugs, mostly wears shoes, but has turned her focus to rescuing mammals. She now lives in Texas with her four rescued cats, one dog, and a prince of a husband, who for the record, is so not a frog. When she's not writing, she's reading, spending time with her family, or shooting things--with a camera, not a gun.
C.C. Hunter is a pseudonym. Her real name is Christie Craig and she also writes humorous romantic suspense romance novels.

In the third installment, "Taken At Dusk", we see more emphasis placed on the obligatory YA love triangle. Kylie has been hurt by both mysterious werewolf Lucas and by boy next door (who happens to be able to feel Kylie's emotions), Derek. Now Kylie has decided to forget Derek and focus on being happy with Lucas. My first real complaint with this book is the back and forth inner turmoil Kylie continuously has deciding between the boys. It was just too much. I get the Kylie is young and she has room to date both but there were just too many pages devoted to the inner drama this time around.
My biggest peeve though is the cliffhanger. As others have pointed out, we end this book in an almost identical manner as in the second book. We know only the barest hint more at the end of this book than we did at the end of the second. It just feels like this part of the series is really dragging on. It is time to get somewhere with the overall plot. I also felt like there was less of a climax this time around than in the previous books. There is supposed to be a big danger to Kylie's life but that sort of ends with a whimper instead of with the bang readers have come to expect.
This isn't to say this book was bad. It is really good in fact. The personalities of the characters are vibrant as always. The humor is strong and I had some chuckle aloud moments. I loved the story about Miranda and Perry; it was absolutely adorable. We are introduced to a new character named Ellie who I thought brought a nice twist to things at Shadow Falls. I just don't feel like this book was as strong as the others. It really did feel like a filler book. I am looking forward to the forthcoming installment and I don't hesitate to pre-order it because I am sure it will be good. The question is will it be great?
If you have not read the first 2 books, you may want to stop reading, as this could be somewhat of a spoiler for you.
Kylie is a caring, selfless person who just wants to understand who and what she is. She's a teenager with flaws of course too and she can't help but fall for the sexy hot guys who happen to always follow her. While some girls would just do what they want and think later, Kylie doesn't want to be the one to break anyone's heart or hurt those she cares about. She seeks the truth in everything she does.
Kylie finally knows she is supernatural, yet not what species of supernatural. She lives at Shadow Falls camp where her roommates consist of a vampire and a witch. It can make for some interesting arguments to say the least. Kylie is slowly picking up supernatural gifts like her ghost whispering that most do not find appealing, but Kylie is getting the hang of it. She also has other gifts that come and go without control, superhearing, running fast, crushing walls to save those she cares about. You know the everyday stuff a teenage girl does...
To top it all off, Kylie isn't just trying to understand her life and who she is but someone else is trying to kill her because of it. Between the supernatural, the mystery of her species, the question of who she wants or should take a chance on with her heart, and the danger, this book is impossible to put down. AND we finally find out WHAT type of a supernatural Kylie is!!! I wont be telling you!!
I am so excited that the next book is out October 2012!!! Hardly any wait at all. Love that!
Get ready and start reading if you haven't tried this series yet. It's well worth it!
