First part of the book was fine. Okay the being kidnapped by a stalker thing is a little creepy but hey we need to have a story somehow, right? Anyways it started out pretty basic, I've done some of these things, and this isn't my first time reading about it. The "leg humping" part I swear I've read in other novels so that put a smirk on my face.
Then I got to the basement chapter. Whatever arousal or entertainment I got went out the window at that point. Sorry but that was too much for me. Now, again, I should have known what I was getting into reading the synopsis so I can't knock points off the rating for that. What does annoy me is how after that ... well torture, let's call it that ... the main character is fully obedient and loves the kidnapper. Not that I was in the mood for it but we seem to have skipped the "broken down/hitting rock bottom" phase.
I kept reading just to see how it would end - and that cabin chapter was another emotional blow, a less detailed "basement" chapter - but what made me go with the three star rating was the ending. Here you are hoping for a happy ending, worried about what could happen to the main character, lots of tension ... and then it ends in a damn cliffhanger. $%#@!
So yeah I can't knock the book for being too dark because I should have known better, but that ending really pissed me off. To anyone reading this if you're into reading about dark BDSM then this is for you, just don't be surprised if the ending disappoints.
I might read the sequel out of curiosity. It's 50/50 over how curious against if I can handle another round.
Having gotten that out of the way, Ms. Felicity Brandon did a great job on this book. We see our sweet Molly that has been abducted having to evaluate her beliefs. We see Connor, the man who has taken her, evolving throughout the story; we're not quite sure ultimately where his character will lead to. I found myself cheering Molly on in her strength and determination.
I will say, as in other books I have read by Felicity Brandon, she touches on sensitive topics with BDSM. She does a great job of safe, sane and consensual. I know there are parts in this book that are not consensual, but I am impressed with where she puts here limits and compassion. This helps bring a dark psychological romantic thriller with BDSM back within the more acceptable realm of Master/slave and D/s. I appreciate the time, insight, love and patience she puts into her books; it makes it worth the wait and worth the time spent reading them. Thanks again for writing the book.... Please hurry with the next one!
If you like Stephen King or ara a fan of Kathy Bates then you might see a parallel to this story. It isn’t as creepy and scary though… or is it?
It is a bit darker then Felicity Brandon other books. There is a lot of focus on pet play and humiliation so if that is not your cup of tea, then this isn’t the book for you. If you love dark then you will enjoy this book a lot.
I loved how the author showed the internal struggles and emotions of Molly. There was so much going on in her mind. Survival, shame, confusion, joy and so much more. That makes the character real and layered. And it also makes you think about what you would do in this situation. How would you react?
Connor is a bit of a enigma. I am not sure how I feel about him yet and what he is. He shows different sides of himself and keeps you guessing about his actions.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series, because I need more.

Molly has spent years expressing her dark, kinky fantasies through the pages of her novels. Connor is the fan who has decided to fulfil those deeply buried desires, whether Molly wants him to or not. What results is a tale of spankings, punishments, depravity, Stockholm syndrome, extreme pet play and a woman in turmoil. I loved the battle between Molly's mind and her body, how she struggled to accept her reactions to Connor's treatment.
Written third person, from both main characters POV, I did feel we got to know both Connor and Molly. It was easier to really engage with and connect to Molly, I felt her emotions, thought processes and instinctual reactions felt believable. Whilst I'm not sure in reality that anyone would enjoy the non-consensual actions of Connor, this is a dark erotic romance and I loved how Molly had to fight her desires. Not surprisingly, though I felt I knew Connor, I didn't feel quite so much of a connection to him. I did love the hints that there is much more to learn about him.
If dubious consent, strong punishments etc bother you then this perhaps isn't the book for you. I would recommend it to those who love dark romance in all it's forms, as well as those who are new and want to try 'dipping' their toes in the black waters. I really enjoyed this and am very much looking forward to the next instalment of the story.
I wanted to like it but my attention didn't hold. Perhaps it got better but I can't tell you as I didn't have the interest to carry on.
Felicity takes us on a different ride as this is a bit more darker than any of her other stories and the more I read the more I wanted so I am definatley looking forward to reading the next book...
