Obviously, if you read the first book, your enjoyment of this will no doubt be enhanced, so I would encourage you to do so. That aside, I really felt embedded within this group of characters, almost from the very first page.
There was an underlying note of tension throughout, which kept me waiting for the other shoe to drop. And when it did, the resolution was dealt with in a satisfying manner.
I enjoyed the heart in this book. I enjoyed the warmth.
I enjoyed the whole flippin' thing.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
While getting Gabrielle the help she needed would she be able to open to Jake? Make him understand what happened? When they come up with a plan, Gabrielle finds out she should have been careful for what she wished for because it wasn't what she really wanted deep down.
When Gabi tries to get through her worse nightmares by herself but everything goes wrong, will Jake be able to realize that he's in love with her before it's too late? Will he be her hero after all?
Just as with part one in this duet, I feel that Annalise Delaney did a wonderful job researching and writing this book. The BDSM element, especially the D/s was tastefully written and well thought out. The flash of vanilla we see shows the contrast of lifestyles and how it can be interpreted.
The emphasis on safe, sane and consensual throughout the book is comforting to the reader as much as the characters. In fact, I think the safety in the relationship is even more pronounced in this portion of the duet. There is a little more drama in this portion and a fun little twist at the end. I can't wait to see what Ms. Delaney comes up with in the next book.
Please note that Taken by Storm is the second book in a duet. These are not standalone novels.
I really loved these characters and their dynamic. They fit and yes, they had some problems but my goodness the way things got worked through was pretty fabulous. This duet wasn't what I expected...it was MORE and Taken By Storm sure took me on a wild ride that really punched me in the heart.
