Designation: Part Five of a Multi-Installment Series, Not a Standalone
Author: Desiree Broussard
My Rating: FIVE SCORCHING STARS*****
Great Balls of Fire! The riveting fifth installment of Taken:The Viking Werewolf's Concubine Series by Desiree Broussard has just been released and may I just say --- Yowza ---again! It is smokin' hot! Things are definitely heating up on the planet Scorched! I love this series! Yes, series and in this case, multiple installments and cliffhangers, so if you haven't read Parts One thru Four, PLEASE STOP HERE. Broussard has dazzled us once again with her amazing talent, astounding imagination and incredible skill. In this installment, she has totally kicked up the heat to a roaring red hot blaze and the stakes in this tumultuous game of life and death have been raised to the limit! The story is exciting, original, unique, powerful, compelling, dark, enthralling, riveting, romantic, arousing, sensual and steamy. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the third person with alternating his and her points of view. The dialog is smart, well executed and flows effortlessly. The characters are fascinating, captivating, imaginative, engaging, intriguing and sexy as sin. Broussard skillfully combines these elements into a superbly crafted masterpiece of paranormal romance peppered with science fiction and filled to the brim with danger, drama, suspense, action, adventure, political conflict, evil machinations, heartbreak, passion, love and a menagerie of fabulous characters. I quickly became totally immersed in the fantasy of the story and completely drawn in by the characters and the planet, Scorched. This story is quite unlike anything I've read. I was completely enthralled!
Synopsis for Books One thru Four:
Handsome Rolf Ragnulf was no stranger to Earth nor humanity. After all, he once was a human from earth but no more, now he lives on the planet Scorched. Hundreds of years ago, he and his people were Vikings from Greenland but all his people, every man, woman and child, had either been captured or killed and taken to the planet Scorched, to be transformed to werewolves to repopulate their dying race. But he and his people were not purebreds and were still treated as less than equals. He has fought his way up the ranks to his current position and can not afford to fail in his latest mission. And that mission was to travel to Earth, procure ten human females for concubines and return them to Scorched to be used as thralls and breeders. Their race is slowly becoming extinct and needs fertile females to reproduce and bear young. Rolf detests the very idea of enslaving anyone since that's what happened to him but he has no choice. He cannot reveal his true plans just yet. But one of the females has escaped and he's determined to recapture her. He tracks her back to her home where he finds her with her dying Grandmother and witnesses the young woman's loss. He has only heard her voice and seen her from the back yet he is strangely moved by this young woman. But when she turns and he sees her face, he is struck by her beauty - her long blonde hair, electric blue eyes and flawless creamy skin - such a gorgeous creature this Briony Williams. Rolf knows that he can not afford to be distracted by a female and has no intention of taking a mate. But his well made plans never included the attraction he felt for the small human female and she seems to haunt his mind day and night. To make matters worse, his father has entered him in the competition to claim one of the ten earth females as a mate. Rolf is furious but realizes he has no choice. He will be forced to claim one of the females but he would refuse to mate her. When he claims his victory over the evil pure bloods, then he will free her. And under no circumstances will he claim the beautiful spirited Briony. Nope! Too much of a headache! Never going to happen! But apparently his wolf didn't get the memo because he's drawn to her as well. Now, he has to have her! But it seems he's not the only one intent on having the beautiful curvy female but he has to catch her first! Oh my! And to make matters worse, it seems the evil King Adolph wants her as well. Good Golly Miss Molly! Briony Williams is no stranger to hunger, despair and hardship but after awakening on another planet, she quickly realizes that there is no hope for escape although that doesn't mean she will submit willingly. After being kidnapped, drugged, humiliated, beaten, abused and stripped, Briony soon realizes that she must find a way to escape and this competition just may be her chance. She has been chased, captured and claimed by Rolf. She is now confined in Rolf's home but she vows to never submit, although it seems her body is intent on betraying her. She feels a strange trust and a surprising desire for the handsome, sexy wolf. What? How dare her body betray her? Briony overhears Rolf's proclamation to his fellow co-conspirators that she is unsuitable to be his life-mate but his eyes betray his primal desire for her! He demands her loyalty and obedience but offers none in return. He has finally granted her a small amount of freedom but it comes at a great price. Rolf has finally admitted his desire for her and commands Briony to assume the duties of the household as his mate but unfortunately, managing his household isn't his only requirement of her. He also demands that she now share his bed and her body - with him! What? After saying she was unsuitable! Never! She hates him! Or does she??? She may be his captive but she will never submit, at least not willingly! Or will she??? Can Rolf continue to deny his true feelings for the beautiful Breony? His head may say no but his body says yes! He tries to convince himself that it is only lust he feels for his lovely captive but in his heart, he begins to suspect the truth and vows to never act on his desires. As Rolf's plan to free his people begins to take root and unfold, his relationship with Briony becomes even more intense yet his desire for her body and her willing submission as his mate only intensifies. He has finally come to the realization that his lust for her must be sated and nothing less will satisfy him or his wolf but he must have her willing submission and surrender. Nothing less is acceptable and he's just the man for the job. He will seduce her and he will definitely have her. But it seems the demented King Adolf still harbors secret desires and may no longer believe in the ruse of the mating between Rolf and Briony. And to complicate an already problematic situation, King Adolph's sister, Adara, has not given up her quest to bed Rolf. He has been able to thwart her efforts so far but how much longer can he hold the psychotic, depraved brother and sister at bay? Now he fears for Briony's safety not only from his many enemies but from Adolph and his sister Adara as well.
Rolf has enough on his plate trying to spearhead a secret revolt against Adolf in order to save his people. He certainly doesn't need a new enemy at his door threatening to destroy his planet Scorched. Unfortunately, that's just what he has. Kosmas, King of the vampires of the planet Legionnaire has arrived in their orbit along with his beautiful mate, Queen Keely, and they are threatening to destroy his world. Oh my! The vampires have discovered the abduction of the ten human women from earth by the werewolves and are enraged at the treatment of the women. They have heard of the slavery and harsh handling forced upon the women and they fully intend to defend the human women of earth and have demanded that King Adolf take no more women. Uh-oh! The human women taken from Earth as concubines to Legionnaire are revered - not beaten, starved, forced into slavery and bred against their will. Mortal women are too important to the future of the vampire race of Legionnaire and the vampires are willing to go to war to protect them. But demented Adolf wants to attack Legionnaire and take the vampires as prisoners to serve as slaves, entertainment and concubines. Oh my goodness! And to add to Rolf's ever growing list of problems, a purebred werewolf has entered his home while he was away and attempted to kill his mate, Briony. What the heck? Rolf is the highest ranking military leader on the planet. Who would even attempt such an egregious act??? Hmmm...I wonder??? Fortunately, he arrived in time to save Briony's life but will he be able to save her from the next attempt? Rolf has many enemies including King Adolf and Rolf's enemies have just become Briony's enemies as well so there will most probably be another attempt. Anyone who wants to hurt Rolf would only have to harm Briony and it would destroy him. Briony has now become his weakness. But this new dilemma has forged a new trust between master and slave - a new understanding and respect, a totally new relationship. It has now become one of equals, willing lovers and mates - one which Rolf had planned all along. Briony has finally surrendered and submitted to the handsome viking werewolf, her body, her heart and her will. But will it last? Rolf wants Briony forever but.....he neglected to tell her that! Oh no! Typical male! Briony has always managed to find a way to somehow survive but can she live through the heartbreak of losing Rolf? Will Briony find a way to survive on the planet Scorched and will it be with Rolf? With danger lurking at every turn will Rolf be able to protect Briony and still execute his plan, free his race, exact his revenge and avoid a war with Legionnaire? Will King Adolf's insane hunger and lust for wealth, power and galaxy domination lead to the destruction of Scorched? Can Rolf save the remainder of the Viking race, the planet and possibly the galaxy? Oh my goodness gracious! No spoilers from me but I will say this..... Handsome sexy Viking werewolf-check! Beautiful courageous human heroine-check! An insane king, heinous villains and evil werewolves-check! Action, suspense, conspiracy, danger, and adventure-check! Heated attraction, undeniable desire, fiery passion and steamy dreamy sex-you bet! That and a whole lot more! I can hardly wait for Part Six! This is quite simply an all you can eat buffet of fantasy, paranormal romance, science fiction, suspense and adventure. I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! I love it! Buckle up my lovelies, it's one heck of a great ride! Fabulous entertainment and a fantastic read!
