David Steinmetz died in 2015. This is his last book. See wikipedia -their may be a book yet to be published "The CatholicCalvin "
Wikapedia has a fine article on David Steinmetz I found it after writing my reviw

Introduction [ the review would be very long if I did not generalize, so my apologizes to the purists.]
You can get some idea what Steinmetz wrote on by going to his Amazon page. For memery there are other works as well.
He wrote influenial works on : Luther, John von Staupitz { Luther's Superior and a major Augustine authoriy ]
John Calvin
Biblical interpretion in the Sixteenth Century
He often asked big questions. His approach to history is seen in several of his book's titles like Luther in Context or Calvin in Context.
I studied Mediciene so an not the best person to tell you about his books and his approach. Also the concept may sound simple , it had huge impliatins on the approach to much historical research.
One of his best known students is Richard Muller of Calvin Seminary
Using Steinmetz's insights he looked the issue of Calvin versus the Calvinists. At the time people were saying Calvin's insights very the good and pure stream of teachng. The Followers of Calvin had hijacked
Muller showed by looking in great detail that this was not the case. Previously people had been saying that Beza had misrepresented Calvin and used the doctrine of Predstination as the key to later Calvinist thought. Muller showed this was simply not the case
Consult Richard Muller's works for the response and also to see the depth and explanitory power of Steinmetz's insights

This book is a collected series of essays from various sources.

So many key points covered in the chapters I've read so far - (not only at the front) but further on in the book. I think this is a helpful book and should be read by many.
